Arrived here for the last evening of our ‘tour’ the view from the old part of the hotel is simply stunning …. But why on earth were they allowed to build the extension 60’s build monstrosity Not in keeping with the original hotel and a blot on the land scape surely this could have been build more in-keeping with the natural beauty of the area Room was very small and had a small balcony but it did have a stunning view so that was the compromise. We have been in 6 other hotels on this visit to Norway and I can honestly say this hotel provided the worse buffet breakfast out of them all. I am just thankful we decided not to chose the buffet option for our evening mea and used the bar facilities which was simple but perfectly adequate.

An excellent hotel despite being in the "new wing". The bedroom was certainly big enough and was kept very clean by the charming employee. The food at breakfast was a buffet style and no complaints at all about the standard of food. The evening meal again was buffet style and was excellent - although it would have been nice to get a bit of variation on starters and desserts. All staff were very friendly and very attentive. Not much to do in Balestrand, but, you can do walks and get ferry to various locations.

We did the return day trip to the famous and historic family owned Kvikne's Hotel in Balestrand from Bergen. The ferry leaves Bergen at 8:00 am and there is a return ferry at 4:45 pm.The ferry takes about 4 hours through the famous Sognefjord. The ferry is a modern ferry run by Fjords Tours...very modern,chic,comfortable ferry with large viewing windows. It is a Cataraman and stunning.It is cleverly designed with sloping walkways so that everyone gets a great view.Aim for the upper deck.It has a nice open deck also for viewing and taking photographs. It has numerous toilets and a nice cafe. The famous and historic Kvikne's hotel is very welcoming and permit the day trippers access to the entire hotel.We had lunch at the hotel sitting in the Verandah with a gorgeous view.The food menu was ample.There is also a nice shop for souvenirs. The hotel has a superb art collection all over with easy access to the day trippers. Balestrand is a small charming village with an old historic St. Olaf's Church with an interesting history.Take the 2 kilometer heritage walk pass unique historic painted villa's with unique architectural designs. I discovered the historic Kviknes Hotel from my book, "One Thousand Places To See Before You Die". This trip to Kviknes Hotel, Balestrand by the very comfortable Cataraman through the famous Sognefjord was the highlight of our visit to Norway.

Nous avons été recu en avance à 13H. Les chambres étaient prètes. Salle de bain vieillissante. Chambre renovée avec bonne literie. Nous avions une chambre avec vue sur Ford. Pas d'équipements hormis un sèche cheveux. La personne de l'accueil nous a donné une carte pour faire une rando sur les hauteurs de Balestrand. Sympa et belle vue malgré la brume restante après plusieurs jours de pluie. Ptit dej très bien dans un cadre magnifique avec vue sur le Fjord.

Hotel storico con sale comuni molto belle situato in un punto molto panoramico vista fiordo. Questi gli unici aspetti positivi. Le camere della parte moderna sono lontane dal livello quattro stelle. Manca il frigo bar, la cassaforte e il kit bollitore. Il bagno è accettabile, la doccia ha un gradino altissimo ed un tubo di gomma con doccino in plastica. Nessun set di cortesia in bagno solo un dispenser ingiallite e appiccicoso di bassimo livello. La rubinetteria non ha miscelatore ed il lavandino ha un tappo di plastica..... Le foto sul sito sono molto diverse dalla realtà. La colazione è nella norma uniche bevande fornite sono te caldo e caffè mentre cappuccino ed espresso sono a pagamento. La cena a buffet è comunque buona ma la sala ristorante è molto rumorosa. Il prezzo è troppo alto per i sevizi offerti.

The views are worth every amount paid.the trip via ferry is filled with waterfalls and great scenery. The older section is quaint. Beds are good. Food is good. There a small bar and a well stocked gift shop. Sole improvement is to move breakfast earlier to allow for 0750 ferry pickup. They open breakfast at 0700. The queue can be long beginning at 0730. Seating on ferry is limited. Time to flam is just under two hours and to Bergen is about four hours.

Het hotel is prachtig gelegen maar echt vergane glorie en een fabriek. Prijs kwaliteit totaal uit balans. Personeel is wel vriendelijk en ontbijt buffet prima. Diner is ook enkel buffet of anders mag je in de receptie area iets eten wat helemaal niet gezellig is. Er zijn veel leukere verblijfplaatsen tegen veel minder geld!
