A weird one to review. First off, this place is very retro. I felt like I was back in the 1980s! Whether that's good or not depends on you!
In general the place was very clean, however this was the first hotel in 2 visits to Taiwan where I found ants in the room. The day I arrived I found one, which I killed and disposed of in the toilet. The next day when I got back from a long hike, I found 6 ants and about the same smaller things. Also killed and disposed of these. The third day, there were none. That might be related to the next thing.
The TV remote was in a plastic case, which was weird. I've not seen any hotels do that for years. Probably for the best though as it was first there was something sticky on the back of the remote. Could have been shutting but my guess is the battery had leaked and the ants were attracted to the smell of the chemicals. The remote still kind of worked but only about half the buttons. The day with no ants, I found the cleaners had cleaned the remote, but it also no longer worked at all. The next meeting just as I was checking out I saw the cleaners and told them and it was just dead batteries. They replaced them and the remote seemed fixed. So maybe the ants just liked the chemicals on the remote?
In terms of facilities, the hotel is fairly basic but still reasonable. There's a table and 2 chairs in the room, but I didn't feel I wanted to use them because the ant's had put me off that side of the room. There was a fridge but it was unplugged and when I plugged it in nothing seemed to happen so I unplugged it again. It looked very old and rusty so I think it was just broken. The bathroom looks very old fashioned and the shower is in the bath.
In terms of service, the room was cleaned every day and to a good standard. I also seemed to have been upgraded as I booked a room with no view and got a room with a window and a good view. So really the only complaint was the few ants, and there weren't that many, so I put that down to bad luck.
