This was great place for a 2-day stopover in Waitomo. We hadn’t planned much in advance, but basing ourselves at the Kiwipaka chalets put us in a perfect position to investigate. The visitor centre is a short walk, as are the caves and everything Waitomo. Village has to offer, although it is quite a sleepy little village in May. We felt it ideal this time of year, and the Huhu Restaurant is a must although normally booked out. I highly recommend the 1km zip line which Rob conducts expertly over the tops of the caves and alongside Māori burial grounds- exhilarating in heavy wi day when you’re trying to beat the rain!!! Do try the zip line!!!
