Xiashan Catholic Church is the only Gothic Church in Zhanjiang City, and also one of the key churches in China. The Church was proposed by French priest Fan Lan in 1900 and financed in 1903. It was the largest Gothic Church in South China at that time. There is a special plant in the church that has been over a hundred years old, fork-leaf tree (also known as cross tree), which has become a popular landscape. Forked-leaf trees usually have two leaves and one cluster. Each leaf resembles a "10" shelf hung on the chest by Christians. Flowers and fruits grow directly on the trunk or branches. Flowers are purple, shaped like small goblets, and are very colorful and peculiar.
