The People's Square is actually a large junction of three roads and the site of the old Roman city gate, Flaminia Gate, which is already a relatively open area in Rome. There are three churches around the People's Square. They are the Notre Dame Church with strong artistic atmosphere, the symmetrical St. Maria Church of Montessanto (Saint Hill) and the Miracle St. Maria Church. Among them, the Notre Dame Church in the northeast corner of the Square is the most famous. St. Mary's Church, which stands today in the People's Square of Rome, was ordered by the Pope to celebrate the victory of the First Crusade. The church was favored and rebuilt by many artists during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In 1513, Rafael was commissioned by banker Agostino Chigi to build the Chigi Chapel in the church. In the 17th century, Pope Alexander II of the Chigi family ordered Benini to redecorate the church. So the facade of the church now comes from Bernini's hand, and its dome is decorated by Rafael's Genesis Chart.
