一萬年前由巨大的冰川所造就的瓦納卡湖與哈威亞湖相鄰而居，被一小塊名為“頸項”的銀白色土地所分隔。這兩座為壯麗山峰所包圍的湖泊有着美麗的鵝卵石灘，是當地人和遊客的熱門觀光景點，尤其是在漫長又溫暖的夏季。

那棵孤獨的樹，無論什麼時候去看都是那麼美，還有人彈鋼琴給你聽。新西蘭的美，真是美在每一個角落，而且是天然無雕飾，比較少有地方需要門票。

瓦納卡湖是新西蘭的第四大湖泊,在奧塔哥地區,海拔278米,覆蓋192平方公里,深度300多米。“Wnaka”是南島方言的wnanga發音,意思是“tohunga或神父的傳說”或學習的地方。
