在北起西安，南至成都的滄桑古道上，有一處中原通往西南的咽喉要道，這就是位於四川廣元劍閣縣境內的劍門關。遠古的四川盆地是一個內海，后因地殼運動，海水下沉，巨石隆起，形成了現在的堅硬礫岩，山體聳入雲霄，峰巒似劍，大小兩劍山對峙，其狀如門，故稱“劍門”，又稱“天下第一關”。
