Dined at the Ye Old Six Bells yesterday with my husand, it was our 1st visit to the pub and tucked away down a no-through road overlooking the river this is a hidden gem.Characterful old pub (said to be the 2nd oldest in England) with plenty of parking we were welcomed by friendly staff immediately upon arrival and all the correct measures are in place to ensure our visit was COVID secure. We had a table right opposite the fire which was lovely and there is plenty to choose from on the menu.My husband ordered the Mushrooms on Sourdough Bread to start whilst I had the King Prawn & Mango Cocktail and to follow he had the Roast Lamb and I opted for the Seabass. The portion sizes are good but the prawns and the sauce in the prawn and mango cocktail lacked flavour and whilst the hot food was delicious, it all needed to be hotter and it's for this reason that I feel it is not 5 * however this would not stop us returning.

We had a great meal at this restaurant. The service was nice, and parking was convenient.

The White Swan at Fence was exceptional. The food was delicious and the service outstanding. Fantastic value for money at £50 for the taster menu with a variety of recommended wines to accompany each serving. We will definitely be going again.

The food was very enjoyable in this simple looking pub. Nothing was making it look different to thousands of pubs in the uk, where food can be a bit cantiney sometimes. But not at the sun inn. We got pork belly and salmon en croute, which both where delicous, and served with carefully chosen sides, ie not the usual 3 boiled veg, that does not bring anything to the table. The portions were not very big, so could be considered a bit pricey, but not in the heart of the lake district. Not sure how good it is in full season, when the restaurant is packed; we went mid october, so it wasn't too busy.
