The Ultimate Neighbourhood Hack: How to Live Like a Local for a day - ✨️ London Edition ✨️
Hidden London: Secrets Only a Local Knows
After living in London for over 10 years, I still find places that leave me in awe. These are the hidden corners of the city, away from the tourist crowds and the constant buzz. I want to share some of those lesser-known tips and spots with you, so you can experience London like a local.
1. Getting Around
Travel is often the most overlooked part of any trip, yet it shapes your entire experience. London offers a variety of transport options including the Tube, buses, cabs and bikes. But the best way to explore the city is on foot. Most destinations are surprisingly close if you're used to walking, and you’ll save money while taking in the sights. If you do take the Tube, avoid rush hour and walk further down the platform to find less crowded carriages.
2. Food Finds
London’s food scene is one of the most diverse in the world. Whether you're craving dishes from the Far East or flavours from South America, there’s something to suit every palate. Restaurants fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so it’s worth booking in advance. One of my favourite hacks is the First Table app, which lets you book early dining slots and get 50% off your meal. It’s helped me explore new cuisines and discover new boroughs without breaking the bank.
3. Beyond the Usual
We all know about Buckingham Palace and Big Ben, but there are other stunning places in London that deserve attention. The Excel area in Custom House, for example, features the bridge from Netflix’s YOU and offers beautiful skyline views over the Thames. Primrose Hill, located near Camden, is another gem with sweeping views of the city. It’s the perfect picnic spot, especially in the summer.
London is full of surprises beyond the typical tourist spots. I hope this helps you uncover a side of the city that many never get to see.
