The head temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji school, known by the nickname "Onishi-san". After the death of Shinran, who opened the Jodo Shinshu sect, the youngest daughter, Kakushinni, began to build a mausoleum to enshrine the remains and images of the saint, and in 1591, it was moved to its current location with the donation of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
