A Flavor-Packed Night at Raohe Night Market
#newyearnewtrip #travelanywhere After a memorable day exploring Shifen and Jiufen, we decided to round off our trip with a visit to Raohe Night Market, conveniently located just a short journey from Jiufen to Taipei. As we arrived, we were immediately captivated by the sight of the Songshan Ciyou Temple, its grandeur illuminated against the night sky, standing as a majestic landmark right outside the market.
At the entrance to the night market, we couldn't miss the long queue winding its way towards Fuzhou Ancestor Pepper Pie. The irresistible aroma of freshly baked pepper pies enticed us to join the line, and it was well worth the wait. Served piping hot, the pepper pie had a perfectly crisp exterior, with a rich, flavorful filling that was both savory and addictively delicious—an absolute must-try delicacy.
As we ventured further into the market, we wandered through the bustling food street, sampling a variety of random eats like grilled chicken rolls and other sizzling street snacks. The lively atmosphere was infectious, with the sounds of vendors calling out and the sizzling of food filling the air. It was a sensory overload, and we loved every moment of it.
In the heart of the market, we stumbled upon a unique spot—Chen Tung Pork Ribs Medicinal Herbs Soup. True to its name, the stall specializes in a herbal pork rib soup that we couldn't resist trying. We paired the fragrant soup with a bowl of comforting braised pork rice. The experience was chaotic yet fun, with patrons jostling for seats and shouting their orders to the staff in a true local style. It felt like an authentic, no-frills dining experience that brought us closer to the vibrancy of Taiwanese street food culture.
We continued to explore the market and came across Makuay Sausage & Rice Sausage, where we enjoyed a delicious trio platter featuring tender pork sausage, rice sausage, and melt-in-your-mouth pork belly. The flavors were expertly balanced, each bite offering a unique and satisfying taste of Taiwan’s rich culinary heritage.
No night market visit would be complete without a refreshing drink, so we stopped by Genuine Tea Shop to indulge in their signature bubble tea. The sweet potato bobas, paired with a smooth milk tea, were simply divine—chewy, sweet, and comforting, they provided the perfect finish to our culinary adventure.
With our bellies full and our senses satisfied, we made our way back to our lodging, reflecting on the incredible flavors, sights, and experiences of the day. It had been a perfect end to an unforgettable day in Taiwan.
