A visit to the National Museum of China is truly a deep dive into the richness of Chinese civilization. Located right next to Tiananmen Square, the building itself is majestic, and the interior is modern, spacious, and thoughtfully designed. The museum covers thousands of years of history — from ancient bronzeware, pottery, jade, calligraphy, and classical paintings, to modern-era exhibitions and cultural relics. One of the absolute must-see highlights is the jade burial suit (玉衣). Crafted from hundreds or even thousands of meticulously cut jade pieces sewn together with gold or silver threads, this incredible artifact was reserved for royalty during ancient burial rituals. Seeing it in person is awe-inspiring — the precision, craftsmanship, and cultural significance make it one of the most memorable displays in the entire museum. Despite being free to enter, the museum requires advance reservation. This is extremely important — you cannot walk in without a booking. We used the Trip.com reservation service, which made the process very smooth and convenient. Highly recommended, especially during busy seasons or weekends. Because the museum is enormous, plan for at least half a day to explore comfortably. The exhibits are well-labelled, the environment is peaceful, and the overall experience is educational and inspiring.
