Wat een enige b&b, veel groter als verwacht. De historie legt de eigenaar je graag uit al je hierna vraagt. Ik vond dat zeker leuk om te weten. De eigenaren zijn erg vriendelijk en gastvrij. De kamers zijn groot en netjes, geen gekke verrassingen achteraf. De slaapkamers liggen op de eerste verdieping, houdt hier dus rekening mee als je slecht ter been bent. Je moet namelijk een trap op. Het is iet wat gehorig maar niet storend. ‘s morgens wordt je wakker van een haan, waar maak je dat nog mee. Echt geweldig! Ontbijt is prima, er werd door de eigenaar nog een eitje gekookt ter plekke. Mooie grote eetgelegenheid waar voor iedereen een plekje is. Genoeg folders en lees materiaal om inspiratie op te doen voor je verblijf in Friesland. Ik kan hier kort en krachtig over zijn. Ik kom zeker nog eens terug.

I was doing a short 5 day motorbike tour of Belgium, Germany and Netherlands to visit friends in each country. I wanted to stop in Balk for one night to visit Willem the harbourmaster and the Golden River Chinese restaurant and was recommended to this Bed and Breakfast Hotel by Willem. I stayed in family room number 8 on the ground floor and this room would be a good option for someone with accessibility needs. Doors are wide and the reception and breakfast room are also large and all on one level and accessible. Although I was alone on this occasion I will choose this room again when I return alone or with my wife. The room was large, clean and comfortable with everything needed for the traveller. Very clean large bathroom supplied with towels, a good size shower and gratis toiletries. The bed was comfortable but a little soft for me but that is personal preference and the bed was a good bed. The room had TV with a good multinational selection of TV and radio channels. When I arrived there was a very genuine friendly and helpful welcome. Owners spoke perfect English. Eating area was a very pleasant, light and airy with a spacious feel and the tables not crowded together. The breakfast had a varied and acceptable selection of continental buffet food to choose from along with hot and cold beverages. Wines, beers, soft drinks and water from a fridge and also fresh coffee were available at any time on a self serve basis using an honesty system with payment on departure. You can pay by cash or card. I thought this Bed and Breakfast was excellent value for money and had everything I needed. There is a large car park with easy access and a good outside seating area where I was able to enjoy a drink and cool down on a very warm evening. Richard allowed me to put my motorcycle inside his own garage for extra security. I did not have to ask for this, he offered it as an additional service with no extra charge. I have visited most of Friesland on many occasions but on this visit only to Balk and although I went from the hotel into the town on my motorbike this journey can easily be made on foot or bicycle. Balk is well appointed for shops, cafes, bars, bakeries and supermarket and you can get almost anything you would want to buy but it never appears busy or crowded. Golden River is mine and my wifes favourite place to eat although we have eaten at other more traditional restaurants and they have all been good. The hotel location is a perfect base from which to travel out for the day to so many of some of the prettiest, towns, villages and most enjoyable parts of Friesland with no great travel distances involved. I travelled overnight with cabin using the Harwich - Hook of Holland ferries which are like 4* hotels and an enjoyable experience. More expensive than some but so much easier to get to and less hassle and problems than Dover and an easy 2 hour fifteen minute drive on excellent Dutch roads to the hotel. I would recommend th

We werden heel gastvriendelijk ontvangen. Ruime (familie)kamer met een extra kamer voor kinderen. Het ontbijt was goed. De eigenaren zijn het tijdens het verblijf erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De locatie ligt niet direct in een dorpje, maar wel dichtbij balk.
