We had a lovely stay! Although it is a narrow, gravel road for most of the way once you come off the motorway, it is beautiful, peaceful and worth the drive. The staff were attentative and service was great. The villas are spacious (attached to one other villa), have a lovely deep bath and a double shower is great. Breakfast was so nice! We

Our originally booked accommodation in Warkworth was not available so our agent booked us into the Woodhouse Mountain Lodge as an alternative. After a four-hour drive from Rotorua, it was a little disconcerting to then have a three-mile drive over a very uneven, narrow, gravel track. Upon arriving we received a warm welcome and chilled out with a glass of wine in the lounge whilst we waited for our room to be prepared. The lodge is ideally positioned in an elevated position with stunning views down the valley. The villas are set in pairs and dotted along the hillside. Dinner in the restaurant was a three-course affair with adequate options. It was reasonably prepared and presented although the bread rolls and the toasted bread with the salmon starter were burnt!! Breakfast served in the conservatory was acceptable with both continental and cooked options offered to order. We used the hot tub but the swimming pool was a bit too cold to venture into. We were a little disappointed with our overnight stay although for some reason can't quite identify why.

We spent two nights at the lodge and loved it. The staff were very welcoming and the lodge was lovely with lots of space to relax and a nice big fire. Our room was outstanding and the bed was very comfortable. We made use of the gas fire and enjoyed a lovely cheese board fist was delivered to our room. The breakfast each morning was great and the view was outstanding. We would definitely stay again.

We arrived late due to a flight delay. The road to get to this place was quite a challenge and the hotel itself was very poorly lit, not easy to find as it was dark. We checked and asked for a cup of tea/ some sweets to unwind , but we were told the kitchen was closed (it was before 9pm) although there was a couple finishing their dinner at the restaurant. We didn't insist as we assumed there would be some goodies at the cottage. Finding the cottage was another challenge, dark winding road from reception, cottage numbers hard to see. No goodies at all not even a cookies jar. We called reception and much later a dessert in a plastic cup arrived. Breakfast the following morning was excellent, we were just so unlucky to arrive at an inconvenient time. This is an expensive lodge, beautifully furnished but making guests feel at home, the essence of hospitality, was lacking.

This property is lovely. Rooms atre decorated well and clean. Lovely flowers and double showers. Stylish furnishings and lovely touches like baked biscuits on arrival, an espresso maker and umbrellas. Beds comfortable and linen great. Disappointing the spa baths did not work. The restaurant and main lodge area is beautifully decorated. The staff are friendly and the food lovely. Special thank you to the head chef who specially made a cheese soufflé for me. The dining room is lovely and the breakfasts superb. Overall I would highly recommend this property.

We stayed here in mid January for our honeymoon which was noted on our booking emails. The stay was OK but the lodge is definitely falling short of the level of luxury that was expected at the price point. Some things to note if you are thinking of staying here - the drive from Warkworth is 20mins along a pothole-filled single lane dirt road. Some parts of this road are especially uncomfortable and difficult to navigate in a hatchback, mainly right as you enter through the lodge gates. It's $110pp for dinner which was again falling quite short of what you would expect for the price point. Not only were they surprised by the fact that it was our honeymoon (no special welcomings in our room) but they had also scheduled work on our cabin for 8:30 in the morning which included hammer-drilling pilot holes through the wall behind the bed. I informed staff that this was not what we had imagined for our honeymoon and was told the GM would be notified. He never apologised to us. The next morning we had mowers and brushcutters at 9am. No TV, spa doesn't work, thank god there was wifi. The room was clean and very nice but that is about the peak of the experience. We will have to do a honeymoon pt2 somewhere else as this was very disappointing.

A much anticipated weekend break to what was described as a Luxury Lodge. On arrival we found the views from Villa 5 where we were located to be far from beautiful natural scenery as we gazed directly down toward the construction of the Puhoi motorway and could hear the large machinery in the distance. Dinner was far from the advertised experience we “would cherish” with the medium rare steak being overcooked, dry and tough and the pork belly very fatty. The desserts were far from the standard of what would be expected from an “Executive chef” The next morning we headed off to explore the region, leaving our towels in the bath for replacing as advised in the in-room information only to come back in the evening to find the room untouched. The phone in the Villa was not working so unable to contact reception. On checking out the following day we were advised that although Daily Housekeeping is advertised, it is not done because of covid. We are not in Level 4, we were not notified on checking in and prices are not lowered for services not provided. There was no tea towel in rooms so washing own cups meant we were unable to dry them. No TV, no Wifi and no air conditioners in Villas. The 3 staff we met were all lovely and doing a great job. Had we known what it was like, we would have stayed elsewhere and is not worth the luxury prices being charged.

Mixed feelings about this place. Would definitely not recommend the place in summer - the rooms are boiling hot - no AC (we requested a fan which they gave but it hardly helped) and the room and bathrooms were filled with bugs (maybe needs a bug bomb) the neighbour's kept coming outside our area forcing us to close the curtains (so no view) which means there isn’t that much privacy. I paid through ******* and the receptionist charged my card again (she did not say she was going to charge me for the room she just charged it again I assumed she was going to put some sort of hold on my card) I advised her during checkout and she said she would transfer me - she ought to have put it back in my card as fast as she took it out. (Still no payment received) breakfast looked average which is why it’s complimentary- we skipped it. The place allows unvaxxed people which I was uncomfortable with (they do not check vaccine passes unsure it’s it’s legal) they do not do room service because of “covid” but do dine in (so it’s not ok to drop off food but it’s ok to eat with potential unvaxxed strangers?) considering they don’t check vaccine passes it’s strange to think they don’t do room services due to covid. The receptionist was nice just a shame that the place was equivalent to a 1star motel. We went for a special occasion it was a bit ruined due to all of this. The views were nice but maybe the place is not worth the price we paid. I would have rather spent that on a hardworking Airbnb

We had a beautiful stay here. It’s a long track to get there but well worth it! Very comfortable bed, spacious and peaceful room with a great view, a stylish lodge, excellent restaurant and super attentive staff. Would definitely recommend.
