Das Chalet Kiaulea ist gut für einen Besuch im Nationalpark Vulcano gelegen. Das Zimmer roch etwas seltsam, war ansonsten sauber, die Einrichtung „Vulkanstyle“,ist Geschmacksache. Das Zimmer wurde nach dem ersten Tag nicht gereinigt mit der Begründung, dies wurde wegen der Covid Pandemie aufgegeben. Weder auf der eigenen Homepage noch bei Buchungsplatformen wird dies kommuniziert.

The location is excellent: close to Volcano village, Volcano Art Center, Volcano National Park. It is quiet, clean, and the room was unique with unusual and fun features (glow lights, woodwork embedded in the walls, stain glass details), and perfect for our stay. We got upgraded to a spacious king bed room, with a beautiful shower, and lots of windows overlooking nature: perfect to hear bird songs and admire the flora, which is plentiful and well taken care of.

We stayed in room 106 for 2 nights. Very quiet and cute little place, but didn’t quite seem as nice as the pictures online portrayed. Although the place was cute it was not functional. The kitchen was tiny, we had to move chairs around to open the fridge, and the Sink was hardly accessible. The whole place just felt claustrophobic with unnecessary walls making the place feel smaller. The double shower is what we were most excited for. Unfortunately the floor is deteriorating and the bathroom seemed quite tacky. I have attached images below. There were also pictures of a bathtub and a hot tub online which were not present on the premises or included in our room with no option of upgrading. There were some issues we had while staying which made us pretty upset. The second night we were sleeping and woke up to a fire alarm going off at 11:30 pm. The smoke alarm was out of battery and needed to be changed. We brushed that shock off to the side and said whatever. But the worst part of our stay happened the day of checkout. Checkout is at 11am but we heard the housekeepers coming to clean earlier. That makes sense some people choose to leave much earlier than the required checkout time. Although checkout is at 11, at 9:45am they shut our water off completely. We couldn’t flush the toilet, wash our hands, brush our teeth, or make coffee. That is absolutely ridiculous as they didn’t inform us of any reason why the water would be shutting off and in the agreement it clearly states 11am checkout. What made it even worse was that we heard a knock on our door around 10:15am to which I said “hello” loudly. Then we heard her unlocking the door and coming in. I had to say “we are still in here” for her to leave. Crazy! Definitely an invasion of privacy and truly shouldn’t happen when we were the only guests on the premises. You have 4 hours until the next guests arrive do you really have to turn the water off and come into our room in order to shoo us out early? There is almost nothing to do in volcanoe so I would highly recommend staying in Hilo and making the 30 minute drive to the national park as a day trip since you can see all of Kilauea anyway in one day! (Unless you’re gonna do the 3-4 day hike up Mauna Loa).

Ein super tolles kleines Hotel in der Nähe des Vulkan. Die Zimmer sind sehr sauber und wurden sehr liebevoll hergerichtet. Das Badezimmer war der Hit. Das Hotel entspricht nicht dem normalen Standard Hotels in Amerika. Wir würden hier sofort wieder buchen.

Ungepflegt und verlassen, Das ist das, was man zu dieser Unterkunft sagen kann. Wenn man ankommt, findet man eine verlassene Unterkunft, kein Personal vorhanden. Nach etwas suchen findet man einen Umschlag mit seinem Namen und Zimmerschlüssel an der Wand.. Die Außenanlage mit Teich, die Zugangstreppe und Flure vor den Zimmern sind sehr ungepflegt. Nur die Sauberkeit des Zimmers ist okay. Wir sind jetzt 5 Nächte hier und haben kein Personal gesehen, vereinzelt kamen andere Gäste für 1 Nacht Wir werden hier nicht mehr hin gehen.

Beautiful property with pond, gorgeous foliage. Lovely room with attention to detail, including beautiful wood and rock details. Seamless check in/out process. Easy, quick access to the lava flow viewing and hiking in Volcanoes National Park.

What a surprising gem this small hotel is in the very small town of Volcano Village. There are less than 10 rooms, and each one is different. The place was very cozy and quite off the beaten path from any traffic and other activities. We had 2 rooms that each had refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, an electric fireplace, satellite TV, large showers and interesting stone bathrooms. It was just a fun way to add to our time spent at nearby Volcano National Park. We would strongly recommend this location to everyone. It did not matter to us that check-in was contactless, and we did not see any one either checking in or checking out. There was a telephone number to call in case we needed something, and additional towels, etc. were made available in case we wanted them.

We had lovely quiet, private stay. The rooms are not the resort-style that many go to the Hawaiian Islands for (and personally, we don't like that atmosphere). We originally booked Lokahi lodge but didn't love the view in our room, so they were able to get us a beautiful, clean room at the Chalet Kilauea with no notice. Room had a nice layout, big windows and was very clean. Each room is different so its worth it to call if you have specific needs. The hot water was really hot, electric fireplace and heater worked nicely to keep us dry in the rainforest environment. I get that some recommend Hilo or other more lively towns, but this is a great choice for families with small kids who don't want to add a 40 minute commute to volcanoes park. Grounds, koi pond were nice to walk through and fun for the kids to run outside.

I don't know about the rest of the hotel, but Unit 101 is a trip! The walls are made of what appears to be volcanic rock (the smooth kind). When you're taking a shower, it's like you're in a (well-lit) cave, with two fountains spouting hot water. I don't know whether I've ever stayed in a suite of rooms that are so much fun. A word of warning, though: you have to remember that there's a step down from the second bedroom to the shower, and another step down from the shower to the master bedroom. Maybe a cave man would not mind a tumble, but we modern folks are not so rugged. There are signs saying , "Watch your step," but we left the bathroom light on to remind us.

The bed was covered in blood and random stains. It was very inconvenient and unsettling to sleep in a bed like this. Everything else was clean and okay but this was not. Please just make sure you check your bed!

We felt immediately at peace when we arrived at Chalet Kilauea. The grounds are serene, and at night the lights are red which reminded us of lava. Our room was extremely clean, and they already had the heater and a quiet humidifier on which made it incredibly comfortable. The bed and pillows were the perfect combination of supportive but soft. The views made us feel like we were in our own paradise with beautiful sounds of birds and frogs. The amenities in the room were well stocked, the shower had great water pressure with water that stayed warm. We absolutely loved the quirky decor so unique to this property which made it even more charming. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a hideaway! It was an amazing experience. We double-booked this over our condo in Kona because we wanted to be close to the east side of the island for two separate days of adventure and it was so worth it! Day 1: We recommend Hilo and waterfalls followed by stargazing at the volcano (we saw lava at night!) Day 2: hike the volcano and other parts of the National park, then make visits along trails and black sand beaches on the south side on the way back to Kona.

Location is excellent in relation to the volcanos. Easy to register, easy no fuss book in and out. Loved the ambience and the surroundings. Room was fantastic, heaps of space, lots of extras, very unique style, beautiful. Would highly recommend staying. Easy off-street parking, super clean room, excellent communication throughout the entire process. My family, including 2 teenage girls, loved the stay and wish it had of been for longer.

We are frankly not sure how to explain the Chalet Kilauea. It's a little bit hippie (frayed without the charm), a bit bohemian and a bit like, well, the toilet is too fragile to use for necessities. We had a 2 room "suite" that was very cave like. No drawers or night stands. STAIRS- be prepared to carry your own bags up a couple flights of stairs. While we are happy not to be greeted with leis and $25 a night valet parking, the Chalet has reduced no contact hoteling to AWOL proprietership. Never saw a soul.
