Great location in the middle of the town - but hotel - our room at least (room no. 303) - was overdue for a refurbishing - small, dark and uninviting , especially the bathroom - fiber duvet and pillow of poor quality. Cleanliness in the room was as good as can be expected for a run down room - but the public areas could definitely use a good clean down - not up to the standard that we have experienced in other Scandic Hotels. The hotel was fully booked, so change of rooms was not possible. The staff came across as inexperienced and the hotel felt understaffed. Good breakfast as usual - but crowded and insufficient seating. All in all this stay was a disappointment - and not close to being money’s worth. If we hadn’t prepaid our stay - we would have looked for a different place to stay.
What I liked - the location, the staff, comfortable bed, breakfast. What could be improved - add espresso/cappuccino machine and pastries , there was a sign in the room saying the room is cleaned on Tuesday, but nobody came to empty at least the garbage (there is only 1 small bin in the bathroom). The rooms are not sound proof, so noise is coming both from the street and from the corridor, so bring an ear plugs.
The breakfast was great, there was absolutely nothing missing and left nothing to be desired. The location right in the city center was also perfect. The bathroom was good, especially the shower was great! The lobby and breakfast room are attractively furnished. We had booked a family room (up to 4 people) for 3 adults. The room was much, much too small for this! There was only one space for suitcases and no storage for packing and unpacking. As the suitcases were very dirty due to the winter weather, it was out of the question to put them on the bed. There were no closets, shelves or anything like that, just a coat rack. There were not enough hooks in the bathroom. There was also no safe. It would be nice if there was a shoe shine machine in the house, absolutely essential in muddy weather. Also, the carpeting in the hallways is very run down.
My wife and I arrived the early morning of Monday, June 10th. We had just arrived after our NCL cruise, and were hoping to drop off our luggage until check in time. Upon arrival it was freaking busy, with numerous cruise ship people both coming, and heading out. With that, we were greeted right away, and offered a meeting room to store our luggage until check in. Everyone we met at the hotel, from the front desk workers, to the numerous women working in the dining room area, were wonderful. We came back sometime after 3pm, and our room was still not ready. No big deal, as we then checked out more of Tromso, and had dinner. We were eventually checked in. Our room was clean and comfortable. It looked good and it smelled good. The beds were comfortable. Everything worked well. The shower door setup was something of a mess. You would have water all over the bathroom floor unless you limited the water flow, and made sure the shower head was more in a certain direction. After the learning curve we were able to somewhat control the size of the water on the floor. The room faced the back of the building, right against an office building. If you were not careful you could give some of the office workers quite a show. The beds were comfy. And the star of the show was the complimentary breakfast, afternoon cake and coffee, and the complimentary dinner. The breakfast was very yummy, with lots of choices, both hot and cold items. Along with coffee and juices. The afternoon coffee had some very yummy cakes. And the dinner was super good, and varied each night. All the meals seemed like there was some serious thought and effort to the spread. The dinner was a very pleasant surprise. Each day they posted the dinner menu. The hotel is right downtown, close to everything. So convenient. We had a wonderful stay. We would absolutely stay again.
訪訪客用戶short version: cozy, clean, & relaxing. Comfy beds. Good food. Great for getaways. But if you’re doing multiple excursions, the drive can be draining & eat into your vacation. Staff was friendly. Owners not so much. Detailed version: Absolutely charming! Very clean & comfy. My mom & I stayed in cabin #4 & it’s right next to the dining hall. The cabin has 2 rooms, an entryway, & a bathroom. One room had a built-in bed, nightstand, windows, & chair. The other room had a built-in bed, nightstand, windows, & another separate bed with different covers & possibly a different mattress. The built-in beds we so soft & cozy! Both rooms had small, plug-in radiator heaters & they’re super efficient! There are no dressers or cabinets for clothes so we left ours in our suitcases & put them open under our beds. There’s lots of open space under the beds (may be a nice idea to convert part of that into cubbies or drawers?). You will need outlet converters if you’re not from Europe. The bathroom has a small sink, toilet, shower, one shelf & hair dryer. Toilet paper is provided. And liquid hand soap that smells fantastic. One bath towel & one hand towel provided per guest (more available upon request). **no wash cloths** so bring your own. The entry way to the cabin has heated tile flooring which was a nice touch. No outside shoes are to be worn in the bedrooms or bathroom, so shoes are to be removed in the entryway. It would be very helpful to have a chair or bench here for shoe removal/application. There are coat hanging hooks along 2 of the walls in the entryway which was great. The bedroom doors & bathroom door all have hanging hooks on them. Thank you!!! Such a big help. It would be very helpful to have a few more shelves for toiletries and small belongings. There’s plenty of wall space in the rooms & bathroom for free-floating shelves. The dining room consists of 6-8 tables. Some are 2-seaters. Some are 6-seaters and can be rearranged as needed. Soft, relaxing music plays in the background while you’re served delicious foods made straight from their kitchen, with some of it sourced from their farm. The ambience is really peaceful. You must try the carrot cake & the almond cake. Both were fantastic!!! They have several blends of teas. Coffee & cappuccinos are available. There are some lamb skins from their own farm available for purchase along with handmade soaps, knitwear, & other items. There’s a living room with couches upstairs in that building. Outside shoes are not allowed past the entryway so it helps to brings slippers or thick socks. The parking lot designated for guests is down a significantly steep hill. Maybe a hundred yards or so in distance. Parking at your cabin is allowed only during brief moments like loading/unloading your vehicle. If the owner sees your vehicle parked outside the cabin for longer than 15 minutes, you will receive a knock on the door with a somewhat urgent request to move your vehicle. This becomes especially tricky i
EExcursion287061The location is great for visiting Tromso. We walked to the Cathedral and to the city easily. We stayed in their explore cabin for one night and one night on a pitch in turf. The receptionist told us that when we checked out at 1pm we could go to cabin because nobody was there the night before. We said how kind. When we went in at 1:30 the next day,Maya was about to give us the keys and Victoria interrupted in Norwegian and said that the cabin was being cleaned. We know nobody stayed in any of the cabins the night before because we had to walk to see if our campervan would fit in parking space. She then lied again and said the windows were being cleaned. Which was another lie. We understand that check-in was 3pm to the cabin. For some reason she didn’t want to let us check in earlier. Customer service is if you can accommodate why wouldn’t you? Her co-workers said we could and they even looked dumbfounded when she interrupted them. (We never asked to check-I’m early) On Taco Night” we saw Victoria. She was off shift at 6:35pm on Friday, she deliberately went in front of other guests and ate all the meat, ect. piling on so much food on her plate eating everything and the rest of us in line got nothing. We asked the cook if she was going to make more she said she wasn’t making more. It was an all you can eat buffet until 8pm. The male receptionist asked the quests if they wanted a refund. We got our money back and left. Overall the place is great to visit Tromso and the staff was great except for Victoria. I’m not sure if she was having a rough day,but she needs a refresher in Customer Service. We Came back the next morning and the chef with pink hair was amazing and the breakfast was great!
SSatanikFor a solo Traveller it’s a great stay, and particularly if you are travelling during the peak season.
The owners are the dearest people you’ll ever come across.
Bonus: You can book your Northern Lights chase with them.
Clean. Safe, location.
Has a great view from the mountains
Travel to city center is easy with good bus connections.
You might just want to make a note, if you being dropped late night during your chase at the city center, taxi or uber is the only option back (but easily available)
Over all stay as a solo traveller it’s a 10 on 10!
訪訪客We didn’t stay at the Ami Hotel, but booked an intimate trip for 5, to hunt for the Aurora. Pick up and drop off either outside the Ami Hotel. On arrival at the hotel we were given warm clothing and boots. Our driver and guide, Sarah, was great, originally from Wales, she was very knowledgeable and told us interesting tales of Norwegian folklore, talked about the different locations that she’d travelled to for great views of the ‘lights’. She was very friendly, and brought fold up chairs to have hot drinks, sausages to toast around a firepit and also doughnuts. Sarah drove us to a few spots and saw the wonder of the ‘Northern Lights’. She also took photos of our group which were great. I would definitely recommend this tour.
