Sadly, Tierra has been purchased by a new company, and the service and standards of the hotel have noticeably diminished. Large groups should be expected on hikes as they now want to maximize the amount of guests on excursions . We were also surprised by the extremely long drives as the hotel doesn’t enjoy some of the closer proximity as others in the same region (such as Explora). The jacuzzi didn’t work the entire time which was unfortunate, we were given a litany of reasons why but the story changed each time we asked. Furthermore, the hotel has 80+ guests and only 7 total chairs poolside. The food was also a category that was severely underwhelming - beware that if you head out on a long hike, some of the food options might have sold out by the time you return and massage appointments are often missed. Furthermore breakfast is extremely limited as well as the bagged lunches on the hikes. Sadly, the hotel had us stranded in the rain for 2.5 hours as they rely on a public ferry to get us back to the 2 hour drive home needed. Other hotels have their own private boats so as to never be stuck in this situation. By then it was pitch dark and dinner at 10pm over logistics that could have been planned better. Overall, the guides were excellent and often work freelance throughout the region, but the hotel, itself, seemed worn out - broken items in the room and a management that seemed intent on herding guests into a cruise like experience rather than an exclusive one in such a beautiful place, and for such a big price.
