Nice staff n Very vintage hotel ,but poor WiFi

It’s ok for short stay

By far and away the best hotel in Timaru, that said I’m slightly biased as a big part of my childhood involved the Grosvenor… rooms are big and modern, don’t be fooled by the old school exterior, it just adds to the charm. Someone has had great fun with the artworks, the restaurant and staff are first class… better than the Hilton in Queenstown. Don’t look any further, highly recommended

Great location. i was looking for something central with traditional charm - the hotel in its heyday must have really been something. Today, it's a much faded shadow, in desperate need of renovation, at least some paint on the internal doors and walls. There are obvious signs of some updates, such as the mishmash of interior design, like the Mondrian color blocks against the traditional old-worldly woodwork. A work in progress that has potential to develop.

Stayed in one of the new suites. Was just beautiful, comfy bed, great views from the windows. Cool old school elevator. Only little irritation was the cleaning crew started quite early and the doors slammed after each room which was very disrupting in the morning. Staff were friendly

Part original art gallery with quirky paintings on walls and stairways, part lovingly restored heritage building. A unique experience with warm and friendly staff. The lift is a special treat for those that have never used a manually opened lift, the metallic clunk as you draw the door closed is redolent with memories from my childhood of visiting my dad in his old office in Wellington. Would recommend The Grosvenor for a breath of fresh original air compared to generic hotels everywhere. Special thanks to Ashley the receptionist.

Fun and friendly staff, refreshingly quirky original art, the heritage lift brought back memories of old building from my childhood. Definitely stay again (I’ve been twice already). Can’t wait for the scaffolding to come down the the vintage grandeur of the charming old building will be fully revealed. One day I hope to stay in the Queens Suite.

Loved the age of the property and that the owners are working to restore the outside to its former glory! The three staff members I encountered were exemplary! The hotel is so lucky to have them.

Room was tidy, clean and very warm. Had to wait awhile to check in as reception was unattended but staff were lovely. The room above was very noisy, and kept us awake. Great location in the city centre
