Had to change our arrival time and departure time due to a teenager forgetting to tell us about exams… Ross the owner was more than accommodating and took our last minute changes with good grace and humour. The staff were friendly and efficient and made us feel at home. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice. We’d definitely recommend the Anchor for a stay; relaxed atmosphere, great customer service and a great menu

We arrived after 8pm by the time we checked in and made our way down to the dining room it was 8:25pm - last orders for the kitchen are 8:30pm - we were served! Dinner was good and exceptionally good value. There was a snag with the heating in our room and bathroom. The receptionist gave us an electric heater for the bedroom- worked well although the bathroom was still cold. Breakfast was fine. The hotel was renovated some years ago and would benefit from a refresh - tough of independent operators with rising costs - comfortable- great night’s sleep - very good service - would happily recommend and stay again

planned a short motorbike trip through Argyll & Arran with 9 colleagues, staying overnight in Tarbert. Weather & trip were excellent, but our unexpected highlight was our stay at the Anchor. Support for booking was 2nd to none, rooms were compact but modern & clean. Restaurant set up a large table for us, which was fantastic (recommend booking as it is very popular) . The staff were amazing throughout & we were made to feel like special guests. staff from bigger/more expensive places should stay here to see it should be done! If ever back in Tarbert area 100% will stay & eat here!

Management friendly and accommodating and rooms clean and comfortable. Convenient to city attractions and ferry to Islay. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. And one of the best parts of the stay is that you have an amazing restaurant as part of the hotel. Only negative is that the stairs are steep, narrow and long to get to your room.

One night stay thank god. Rooms are awful. Electric radiator is broken. No heated towel rail so at 6 degrees outside the room was cold. Bed is hard and the duvet was a summer duvet. Dust, dirt and stains everywhere. Bathroom so small you couldn’t swing a cat and no where to put your toiletry bag other than the floor. Extractor in bathroom is just a hole with a towel stuffed in it. See photos. I would avoid it. On the plus side the restaurant was good.

We arrived soaked after a lengthy bike ride and wanted to get into a warm bedroom as quickly as possible. There was no-one on reception and instead I had to wait rather too long for one of the overworked waiting-on staff to appear and check us in. The room was cold. There was no information at all so we weren’t able to get any heat with asking further. We were also advised to not even bother with the towel rail as none of them worked in the hotel. All far from ideal when you’re trying to dry out soaking clothes. The tap was very loose and worst of all there was a huge crack right across the seat of the toilet. Totally unhygienic. I mentioned it when we went down again and was thanked for telling them - but it clearly wasn’t going to be fixed for us. The room should stayed unused until it had been fixed. There was also only one, tiny shower gel and one tiny shampoo between the two of us. You get the picture. The food in the Seabed Restaurant was reasonable but was not a patch on the standard when we ate there last two years ago.
