Great time at the pool bar chilling. Shadow was an excellent host and we enjoy being there. The food is good. Plenty of choice of drinks. The two pools were great for the kids. Recommend to go and enjoy some time in between adventure on the island.

From the moment we entered the resort we felt welcomed, we had a deluxe room with great views of the ocean and coastline from the balcony, 2 pools to choose from which were very inviting especially with a poolside bar, nothing is too much trouble for the staff, Una, Tina, Belinda looked after us so well in the restaurant and reception, remembering our coffees and breakfast selections, the food is absolutely delicious, kudos to the chef 100%, we even had the privilege to watch a wedding, Vivienne does an amazing job with the wedding arch and flower arranging. Not to forget Lagi who kept our room fresh everyday. Talking to James the manager who is putting some innovative fresh ideas for the future especially for sustainability and growing the resorts fresh foods. We came as tourists and feel we are leaving as friends. Thankyou everyone Cheers Jen & Marianne

It's all about Location, Location, Location! A little beauty of a 3-star resort offering all the usual amenities. We stayed for 2 weeks (flights to/from the country were only weekly and one week, we felt, would be a little too short to really experience Niue. Development plans include a total re-build/remodel of the main dining areas, bar and reception. Also, plans afoot for growing own fruit & veggies onsite. Hopefully management will upgrade the access to the reef flats and tide pools directly under and in front of the bar/dining deck area. Up close and personal views and encounters with Humpback Whales during their yearly migration visit! WE were able to visit a wide range of eateries (check on which days and when they are open) and visited many tracks down various cliffs to access caverns, tide pools and beaches. A hire car is a must as not public transport on off for the island nation.

We stayed at the Matavai apartment units down the road as the main resort was full. The units are located a short drive from the main resort and it has its own pool, BBQ and seating area, a satellite reception with freezers for each unit, a washer and dryer and also a telephone with a directory for Reception and restaurants. Our unit had excellent air-conditioning, a kitchenette with a hot plate, fridge and microwave. It's a great option for families as each unit sleeps up to 4: a king sized bed and a sofabed suitable for kids. Check in was easy and the cold welcome drinks and cold towels were a treat. Reception conveniently sorted out a rental car as they have some parked at the main resort carpark! Special mention to Elaine who was amazing and organised everything for us so efficiently! The resort also has Airport transfers and a welcome orientation for guests. The two pools at the main resort are great and it was nice to enjoy a cold slushy from the pool bar. The breakfast buffet had a good selection. The usual hot selection including scrambled eggs, sausage, hash, fish, fresh coconut bread, cereals and fruit, cold juices but no cold cuts. They also had an a la carte menu and it was nice to see the local police force also enjoying breakfast there one morning because the view is incredible! We had some lunches and dinners there which was handy with everything closed on Anzac day, but the service was a bit slow. Their umu buffet night is delish and fun with a live performance from friendly locals. The food was great with a spitroast pig, lamb, chicken and other island delicacies. Some vegetarian friendly options too. They provide the guests with a daily newsletter with a schedule of resort activities and island activities. The apartment units were great to stay at but next time we will stay at the main resort so we can easily walk to breakfast and dinner.

The ideal island resort - suitable for all types, families with young kids, with teenageers, couples and the oldies too! The outdoor decking area looking over the reef and ocean on one side ( amazing sunsets! ) ....the fantastic pool and dining area on the other. Great staff, and fantastic grounds, plus the location is ideally only 10 mins drive to town, but close to some other great areas.

It was our first time to visit Niue & the Matavai is a good place to stay. We had 2 adjoining units in the apartments 2km down the road. The units were spacious and comfortable, all with a view of the ocean. 2 adjoining units are connected, when you book a 2-brm. Great to have the kitchenette for lunches, and dinners if you want, although there are plenty of cafes to eat out. WiFi was good; TV was erratic. There is a pool by the units which we used a couple of times; mostly we swam in the reef pools. We took food from NZ (the basics- butter, bacon, cheese, pickle, jam, crackers, coffee, etc) and that worked well for us instead of the expensive equivalent at the local supermarket. We took our own plunger for coffee. The island is a great experience and in November it was quiet; the sea was warm, the snorkeling was good. Rental car is a necessity. Breakfast at the resort was ok … pity to run out of fresh fruit & coconut bread during the week; they could do better to make sure there is good local fruit options. Coffee is instant but can order an expresso for additional cost. The main pool at the resort is lovely; the restaurant for dinner was good.
