Effectivement c’est vraiment la maison du bout du monde, au bout d’un long chemin de terre, juste au bord de l’eau. La maison est belle et le paysage qui l’entoure en tout point spectaculaire. La chambre que nous avions était confortable et les parties communes également. Tout le nécessaire était à disposition pour cuisiner. Je mets quelques bémols cependant : Après avoir lu les évaluations élogieuses nous nous attentions à vraiment mieux sur le petit-déjeuner (malgré un bel effort du propriétaire). J’ai trouvé les placard de la cuisine très en bazar. La chambre n’a pas du tout de volet.

Wer das Ende der Welt sucht, hat es hier gefunden. Toller Platz zum Abschalten. Vogelstimmen bilden eine ganz besondere Hintergrund-Musik, wenn man die Fenster öffnet. Die Zimmer sind liebevoll und zugleich praktisch eingerichtet. Toll

Die Unterkunft ist klasse und modern. Man hat eine tolle Aussicht und ist fernab von jeglicher Zivilisation. Es gibt kein WLAN und keinen Fernseher. Uns hat es für die eine Nacht nicht gestört. Das Zimmer ist geräumig und verfügt über ein sehr modernes Bad. Man hat einen tollen Rundumblick. Das Frühstück am nächsten Morgen hatte alles was man braucht und war in Gemeinschaft auch sehr schön. Jederzeit gerne wieder.

Kolkuós is a great guest house! We would highly recommend it. And of course the history and story of saving the historical buildings only adds to the allure. Kolkuos would be great for travelers seeking peace and quiet, however, it is especially great for Bird Watchers given its location right on the estuary and the fjord. The free Bird Identification application Merlin (apps for Apple and Android) run by Cornell University was able to identify 6 different types of birds by their calls in less than 5 minutes including: (after loading the Iceland bird pack from Merlin) 1 - Eurasian Oystercatcher 2 - Arctic Tern 3 - Common Redshank 4 - Meadow Pipit 5 - Common Snipe 6 - Black-tailed Godwit Of course the great service and high quality accommodation only makes it better. We had some trepidation after booking this because of the limited information online and remote location. What a pleasant surprise. Comparable to a New England B&B, the guesthouse is clean, well maintained, and well appointed. The pictures online don’t do it justice. The location is stunning, at the end of a long dirt road, with the house situated on a remote beach on the fjord. Stay here if you can!

I stayed here with my mother during our trip around Iceland. This was our last night before returning to Reykjavik and it was hands down my favourite place we stayed. The house is lovely, the room was spacious and warm and the bed very comfy. What really makes this accommodation stand out is its location, right on the beach with beautiful views across the sea. It's very remote so there's no light polution and we were able to see the northern lights. There is no TV or wifi available which didn't bother me as I was more interested in enjoying the scenery and just chill. Breakfast is available between 8-9am and all the guests sit around one big table which was nice as we ended up chatting and sharing our travel experiences. If I come back to Iceland I would definitely want to stay at this magical place again.
