We booked a self-catering apartment for 7 days and we have had the most wonderful time visiting places from our hub in Stranraer. The apartment was so well set up with everything you could possibly need - having a half fridge & small freezer was brilliant and the local supermarket was within walking distance. Nothing was too much trouble. There is a huge free open carpark across the street, there were 2 ferry ports for our day trips, there is an elevator, great free wifi and excellent security. All of the apartments are wheelchair accessible too. We were warmly welcomed by the owner Colin and Margaret, her husband and her colleagues looked after us if there was anything we needed or wanted to know. Excellent value and definitely a place we would book again if we ever come back to Scotland. We have no problem recommending this as a fabulous place to stay, and in our 6 weeks driving around Scotland, we can honestly say it was the best.
The hotel provided our venue for our charity AGM and dinner. It was outstandingly good. Every request was met and the dinner service in particular was excellent. Over 100 people at the AGM and dinner and it went without a hitch. Food very good too. Many of us stayed there and I had a very large room with a very comfortable bed. Lovely staff too. Can't recommend it highly enough.
I recently stayed at this hotel with a group of friends in a car club. Sadly, the experience was not all good. It is in a fantastic location and but there it ends. The staff are trying their best, but seem to be lacking in experience. Steve, in the bar, appears to be the 'jack of all trades' and does his best. The food was adequate, and the buffet style breakfast ok. Gluten free and vegetarian options were limited at breakfast. Rooms - we had 217. If you are a couple avoid this room. You couldn't swing a cat in it, and involved my husband having to climb over me to get into bed! Not the best - sorry!
