Welcome to our cozy cottage set on 14 acres of quiet, secluded land in the beautiful Appalachian Trail community of Roan Mountain, TN. Enjoy the sights and sounds of wildlife as you sit on the front porch and take in the peaceful nature all around. Spend time just relaxing or jump into the many activities near by including hiking, fishing, snow skiing and tubbing, antique shopping, golfing, ATV riding and zip lines, vineyards, Watauga Lake, Grandfather Mountain, rafting, exploring the caverns, Bristol races, area festivals, and much more. We are just minutes from Roan Mountain State park and the Appalachian Trail that offer many hikes and beautiful views. We are also close proximity to Banner Elk, Boone, Bristol, Johnson City and many other exciting locations with lots to do and see.Our cottage sleeps 4 comfortably with a queen bed in one bedroom and a full bed in the second bedroom. The family room is the perfect place to gather and relax while watching our smart TV, playing games, or working on a puzzle. Phone and TV are through Wi-Fi only and work off of a satellite. The Kitchen is fully equipped, or if you would rather grill, we have a gas grill right outside on the porch. For dessert feel free to cozy up by the firepit and make some yummy smores while enjoying late night chats or even some fire side songs. We are near skiing and hiking making us a true 4 season destination. This little house was built as a storage shed back in the 70’s or somewhere there abouts. It was originally constructed partially over an old tobacco barn foundation. The original barn was built sometime in the 1940’s and was struck by lightning in the 70’s and burned to the ground. 85% of the materials used in the remodeling of what we now call Rustic Ridge was reclaimed materials. Most of the planks and finish lumber Which includes wormy chestnut, ash and cherry wood was salvaged from an old farmhouse that was dismantled on our nearby property. With all new plumbing and electrical you get all the safety and comfort of your own home. The house does not have AC and it is hardly ever needed. Even in the heat of summer the house stays cool being located under a canopy of tall birch, poplar and cherry trees. Heat is provided by electric baseboard and wall heat as well as an electric fireplace. After traveling up the gravel drive, porch steps will take you through the front door to an open living room and kitchen with the bedrooms/bathroom down the hallway. Although there is only one bathroom available, the master bedroom offers an additional vanity sink. You can expect to hear the sounds of nature - whether cows and donkeys occasionally during the day, or crickets and cicadas most evenings! The cabin sleeps 8-10 comfortably and is perfect for a couple families with or without children. The mountain chalet is a 3 level home and has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths• 1st floor Master bedroom has a King and full bath• 2nd floor master has queen and full bath• 3rd level bedroom has two twin beds, a loft with two beds and a kids hide away with one bed• The 1st and 2nd level both have gas fireplacesIt doesn’t get prettier than this. One of our guests, described Watauga Lake as Lake Geneva in the NorthEast corner of Tennesee. Our house sits atop of the mountains in Appalachia at 4500 feet. Because we are in the Cherokee National Forest, there are very few homes on the lake which makes the views prettier than normal. In addition, the lake gets warm early in the season. You can swim from April through late October. It is a short walk to the private marina and gazebo, where there is a private covered marina; Fish Springs will bring a rental boat to an open slip for you if you'd like or you can bring one yourself. In the winter, it is an amazing home located 20 miles from a handful of skiing mountains including Sugar, Beech, and Appalachian. Our home, completed in late November 2009, looks like something straight out of a movie with driftwood trees inside the house as well as indoor and outdoor water falls. Its located in the beautiful Lynn Valley area of Elizabethton TN, a highly sought after area that the Watauga River flows through. Enjoy your morning coffee on the front porch looking out at the peaceful pond right out front. The two pond fountains sound amazing and add tranquility. This one bedroom one bath cabin has been meticulously maintained and is always meticulously cleaned and rental ready. 5 Blocks from the Watauga River, some of the best trout fishing in the entire country is feet away. Wireless internet, Samsung 75" Ultra 4k UHDTV with surround sound, 42" HDTV in master bedroom, excellent cell service (AT&T), outdoor fire pit/ grill combo and a Charbroil electric grill. The futon in the den will sleep two more (double bed), master bedroom sleeps two (King). Dish Network satellite HDTV service with more than 200 channels to chose from. Update: 8/3/2023 The cabin was just re-stained, as well as the wood around the pond, 15 green giants were added, 30 led landscape lights, and landscaping timbers, as well as the fire pit. We updated the entire cabin in 2022 with all new leather furniture in the den. We used a local interior designer to give the cabin a complete makeover. The leather couch has two recliners, plus there is a single leather recliner. All of the ceiling fans and outdoor light fixtures are brand new. The bedroom was updated with new flooring, paint, new king size bedroom suit and decor. We added a 24,000 BTU HVAC mini split system for heat and air, which is very quiet and comfortable. The mantle is an amazing piece of artwork that looks like museum. We also installed a 5 x 10 dog kennel behind the cabin with a dog house. We added landscape lighting around the cabin as well as solar lighting around the pond. It is amazing at night! The cabin features unique trophy heads including a Moose, Red Stag, Deer, Antelope, Turkey and Fish. The trophies were shot by William Crawford who built the cabin in 2005. Its an incredible location at the base of a mountain, and it faces another mountain. There are no cabins next to you or behind you, and a huge field for dogs to play in. The cabin has a brand new metal roof and was just re-stained. The pond gets water from a newly installed solar pump and the pond fountain is also powered by solar energy. The pond was completely rebuilt in the fall of 2021 and spring of 2022, with a brand new liner and new wood all the way around, stained to match the cabin. The old fences seen in some photos have been removed and soon green giant trees will be planted along the roadway. Please don't throw trash or any debris into the pond. The best fishing is 1000 feet away on the Watauga River. You can park at Riverside Baptist church and fish the river anytime except during church hours. We would like to share our mountain cabin located on 45 acres of private mountain land and situated on the beautiful Elk River. This river cabin is located in the Cherokee National Forest and will sleep 7 people. This home is very cozy and relaxing. You will find all the amenities of modern home including a large smart TV and WiFi, and a full kitchen. The cabin porch deck overlooks the large Elk River. And because you are surrounded by the Cherokee National Forest, your nearest neighbors will be the abundant wildlife that live in these scenic mountains. The Elk River is a great fishing location that has bass, rainbow and speckled trout. During the summer months be sure to bring your swimsuit and enjoy a refreshing swim in the cool river water. Or bring inflatable floats for a river float-down. You can also use our kayak and canoe and take full advantage of this large beautiful river. The riverside deck has a BBQ grill and is a great place to picnic. You can also grill on an open fire at the large fire-ring, or you can just sit by the river and relax to the soothing sound of flowing water. Trout fishing can be productive right at the river deck. This property is open all year and every season has its own special allure. During early Summer the fireflies gather at night in this deep mountains location. Autumn brings the color change and the trees are something to see. Local festivals are an attraction in East Tennessee. June boasts the annual Rhododendron Festival and in September the town of Elizabethton host a Covered Bridge Celebration. October is the “Country Thunder” at Bristol Speedway, and Unicoi County has an Apple Festival as well as the Fall-O-Dendron festival in Roan Mountain. November is the “Pinnacle Speedway in Lights” event located in Bristol - all are fun things to see in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee. And don’t forget that in Winter the Beech Mountain Snow Ski Resort is only a 45 minute drive. Additionally, giant Watauga Lake is only a short drive and offers scenic views as well as fishing, kayaking, sailing and pontoon boat rentals. The Appalachian Trail is also very close to this cabin and the location where the AT trail crosses the huge Watauga Lake is something to see. The property also borders the official boundaries of the Cherokee National Forest and offers a private and somewhat isolated retreat that you will not forget.
