An honest review This hotel is absolutely not what is being advertised on their website. What they are advertising is this hotel a few years ago and it’s in a very very very different state. On arrival you enter the grounds to a nice Victorian house with a huge car park but soon realise the gardens or car park have not been maintained for a long long time, weeds, piles of rubbish scattered around everywhere. Enter the main reception and into the lobby of the main house, still with its original features which is a nice welcome but needs a lick of paint to brighten it up. On check in I asked where the gym was only to be told “it’s now been closed for some time” the website still advertises a spa and gym and when working away hotels are picked for their amenities. The room, I checked in to room 211 to see a very dark, dated room that had clearly not been modernised for a long time. The corridors and communal areas are all the same, very dark, very dated and need modernisation. The tele didn’t work and it was a plug in heater. In the evening I headed to the main house and to the bar, again nice original features but again needs modernisation to go with the features. When I asked where the restaurant was I was told “this hotel doesn’t serve food anymore but you can get takeaway ordered” absolutely no where on their website does it say that food is not served and actively advertises it as having its full features. In the morning it does serve breakfast in a lovely huge room on the back with a grand piano gather dust overlooking the grounds. Breakfast was good except the juices which have clearly been watered down so much its water. That staff at the hotel were all good and helpful but the hotel as is is terrible. It’s a huge shame as the hotel could be amazing, the grounds could be amazing if looked after, the spa and gym looked good so could be nice if it’s was open, the rooms could be good with some paint and modernisation , the main house has lots of character and original features but needs a massive amount of money spent on it. It’s needs a massive modernisation to have a character hotel with all the features of a modern hotel that’s expected. After looking at trip advisor when sat in my dark room without a working television it appears it was once a brilliant hotel that has been slowly working its way in to a state of disrepair over a number of years and the owners have done nothing. I would suspect this will only be a hotel for a short time before it’s closed and sold off as the amount of money needed to bring this up to a decent standard would be huge. It will be huge shame as the potential could be amazing.

We had our wedding ceremony and reception here at the begining of April. What a fantastic hotel/wedding venue it is! From start to finish the day went so smoothly and everything was just perfect. The wedding breakfast food was exceptional and all of our guests commented on this! I cannot thank the staff enough, for such great organisation of the day. The rooms were set up so beautifully and the hotel grounds are well kept, neat and tidy. The hotel rooms were immaculate, spacious and very well presented. The breakfast included was lovely offering a variety of hot/cold foods. All the way through our wedding journey members of staff were on hand to answer any questions/queries and were very happy to help! Overall this venue is amazing and I would highly reccomend.

My time here was really enjoyable. I was made to feel welcome from when I first walked through the door. The staff are extremely friendly, polite and helpful. I would also highly recommend the food, they have a wide variety of different choice from the menu. I tried many different things over my week stay and was all extremely tasty. Would recommend anyone to use the hotel for business or pleasure.
