埃克塞特飯店(The Exeter Inn)

Bathroom smelled of urine and had no rail to hold onto in the shower; as I find to be frequently the case, ******* booking placed in a very poor room -- in this case top floor in an old building directly under the roof with dormer windows and a very noisy window AC in it. Certainly not worth the price of a night's stay!

Charmant hôtel, accueillant, jolie chambre spacieuse. Thé, café et biscuits offerts pour le goûter à déguster dans le petit salon. Petit déjeuner copieux le matin inclus dans le prix. Stationnement facile devant l’hôtel. Vraiment un excellent choix.

Our room was so tiny that the luggage cart couldn’t fit in. No table or lamp on 1 side of bed due to closet door needing to open. Not a single photograph or piece of art on any wall. Air vent totally rusted. Wall covering starting to peel. Very disappointed.

I like the location of this hotel. It's under ten minutes walk to Phillips Exeter Academy. However, staying here for a second time, reveals to me that no one paid attention to whether house keeping really cleans the rooms. The face sink and showers has build up that make you uncomfortable to use them both. And the dressers, bed head and pictures on the wall has lot of dust. An organized room is not a cleanroom.

We arrived as the sun was setting, outside lights turning on. The lobby and staircase welcomes you with old world charm. The staff is courteous. Entering the room you step back into the 1930's. The doors, trim and so on are all original. That would be wonderful, however the cleanliness left much to be desired. The room is the size of a shoebox. The lack of cleanliness and musty odor ruined what would have been a pleasant step back into an earlier time.

Check in was delayed as there was nobody at the desk when we arrived. Another couple was waiting there prior to our arrival and eventually four different customers were waiting to check in by the time someone returned to the desk over 10 minutes later. The check in process went smoothly and quick once someone arrived at the desk. We found our room incredibly small but acceptable for our needs. The bathroom was poorly designed and needs to be thought out better. The comforter on our bed was stained though likely clean. After check in we went to the bar to have a couple drinks which were served by a polite and sociable bar tender. We then returned to our room to change for dinner at Epoch dining room. Our servers were very pleasant and quick to serve. The dinner was average for the cost. We retired to our room and experienced a quiet night with no disturbances or unpleasant sounds from hotel activity. My wife found the bed uncomfortable but after a long drive that previous day I did not notice. Continental breakfast the following morning was good with a selection of cereal, yogurt, muffins, egg salad and drinks to choose from. Checkout was done automatically with no need to see front desk.

They elevator was not working during my check in so I had to carry my bag to the third floor. Based on the dust accumulation and the state of the shower, my room was not clean and prep before my arriving. Obviously, it was not clean for over a week.

Room was quite clean. This hotel has been around a long time and you can see that it occasionally. I was on the third floor which has a sloped ceiling in a few spots. This made the shower interesting. The room and bathroom were overall great though. The staff was unbelievably good and the Epoch restaurant was an unexpected surprise, with a surprising menu and excellent food (squash soup is sooooo good).
