This particular TownePlace has been our go-to hotel for years when we come to Sioux Falls to visit family. The biggest draw for this property specifically is that they have 2-bedroom rooms for pretty affordable rates. This is a perfect room for families traveling together, particularly those with teens, and helps avoid the cost of having 2 separate rooms. This is why we have historically stayed at this property time and time again. The last couple of times staying at this property, our experiences have been not so great. The time before our most recent stay, we got to our room, and one of our kids went to use the bathroom, and the toilet had NOT been cleaned from the previous occupant. They had gotten sick in the toilet, and the evidence was still very much present. We called the front desk, and the manager was the one working at the time and immediately came up to clean it. He did what he could in his power to make this situation better for our family. We were satisfied with his efforts to remedy the situation. However, I really wonder how this was missed by housekeeping prior? My family is of various heights, and we all could see the vomit still splattered in the toilet. It makes you wonder what other shortcuts they are taking, honestly. My most recent experience was a solo trip to visit some friends. I got into the hotel around 10 pm and walked to the front desk to check-in. I stood around and waited for the employee to come to the desk, which was about 2-5 minutes; I could hear her around the corner in the office. I received no ”Hi or Hello” simply ”checking in?” I'm aware working at a hotel on the overnight shift isn't the most glamourous or satisfying job, but a simple 'Hello' after a long drive is appreciated. She asked for my ID, clicked a few buttons, told me to swipe my credit card, and handed me a room key for the 2nd floor. Our Marriott profile has a high floor room indicated, and I know there were some available as the people who checked in after receiving a higher floor room (we rode on the elevator together). The sound dampening between the floors of this particular hotel is not the best, so if you have someone above you that has children or is a heavy walker, you will hear it through the floor. I promptly check the bed as I do every time I stay somewhere away from home and find no mattress protector, simply a fitted sheet on the mattress. Exhausted, I shrug it off and go to bed as I had an event the following day. Partway through the night, I awake to a stifling hot room. The thermostat is not located in the room's sleeping area; instead, in the entry area is motion-activated after an unknown amount of time. Before turning in, I had turned the fan on high for air movement and noise, and the room was silent, hot, and stuffy upon awakening. This is not a game one wants to play when trying to sleep. This occurred the next night and is extremely frustrating and provides for a restless night. Why did I not talk to the front desk about
