Onbegrijpelijk dat Coco Ocean Resort and Spa op vandaag nog als 5* hotel gecatalogeerd staat. Dit is het absoluut niet (meer) waard. Het hotel, dat is opgetrokken in koloniale stijl, is hopeloos verouderd. Ondanks de prachtige locatie (incl. privé strand), zijn dringend ingrijpende renovaties nodig in het ganse resort. Zowel de inrichting als de gebouwen zelf zijn hopeloos gedateerd. Het onderhoud laat te wensen over van bij de inkom over de lobby, de zwembaden, verroeste ligstoelen, gebroken tegels, afgebladerde verf, etc. Ondanks het feit dat er op het moment van ons bezoek quasi geen gasten waren, waren de toiletten bij het restaurant en de zwembaden vies en vuil. Het ontbijtbuffet was die naam niet waardig: er was amper vers fruit (enkel wat ananas en een restje watermeloen), amper een paar broodjes met 1 potje confituur, er was geen yoghurt, de plastic covers vielen bijna uiteen. Enkel de pannenkoekjes waren lekker, maar die kwamen dan weer met te weinig Nutella. Kortom, een echt teleurstellende ervaring over de ganse lijn. Wij hadden een 5* verwacht, maar kunnen dit hotel echt niet meer dan schamele 3* geven.

My wife and I are both in our mid seventies and wanted a nice quiet beach holiday over Christmas and New Year. Our local travel agents suggested Coco Ocean so we went with that , travelling via Gambia Experience. We were delivered exactly the holiday we were looking for. It isn't a large hotel with a capacity of about 150 so we got to know and found all of the staff from CEO to Gardners were lovely and I could fill a page with names but everybody greeted us with a genuine smile and a " how you doing?" .We booked the breakfast/evening meal package and thought that choice and quality was exceptional. We had a great Christmas Dinner , and a truly unforgettable New Years Ball. The accommodation was fabulous as it was right by the beach and everything worked just fine. We booked two day trips , one a river cruise with a bit of fishing and swimming which was really restful and a second trip that was a six in one excursion around Gambia which I think is best described as unforgettable but tiring. Looking back on the holiday I only have good thoughts and find that some of the adverse reviews strange . You have to make a judgement based on where you are so that five stars is based on Gambian standards and I felt that they all gave it their very best .

What a wonderful experience and quite frankly the best kept secret in the UK All staff are worth their weight in gold, going above and beyond to assist always with a smile and are genuinely service-led. The hotel is beautifully surrounded by scenic views that only Mother Africa can offer and cannot be imitated. I am so proud to have stayed here and witnessed first hand people with a beauty rich and strong… a heritage that rates second to none. I hope the unique qualities of Coco Ocean will never change just to ‘fit in’ See you next year

Beetje koloniale sfeer. Mooi opgezet hotel in tropische tuin. Prachtige grote kamer. Heerlijk gelegen aan het strand met prima ligbedden. Iets buiten de drukte, een heerlijke rust hier. Lopend over het strand naar "the *****" en dan voor 2,5 euro met de taxi (overal staan ze) terug. Super vriendelijk personeel, schoon, goede restaurants. Helemaal tevreden!

Van ontvangst tot vertrek genoten van ons verblijf. Heel goede taxiservice. Goede verzorging van ontbijt tot en met diner en verzorging van de kamer. Vanaf de loungebedden was het uitzicht (zonsondergang) adembenemend. Het lunchbuffet op zondag was zalig. De cocktails waren heerlijk (al duurde het soms wel een tijdje voordat ze werden gereserveerd). Het ontbijt was prima verzorgd (al waren wij voor Gambiaanse begrippen wel erg vroeg elke dag. Kortom we hebben echt genoten van ons verblijf.

The staff are exceptionally attentive; front of house, restaurants, grounds anywhere they are encountered, nothing is too much trouble. I had the pleasure of a Royal Suite which didn’t disappoint, particularly the private pool. It’s amazing how a middle aged guy can be so pleased by some funky pool lighting. Breakfast on the pool terrace was stunning as was the evening Thai meal. Thanks to everybody at the hotel and a big up to Gordon on Reception for being so helpful.

I stayed at Coco Ocean for my two days honeymoon, The resort was very beautiful the first thing that impress me was the big giant gates which separated from the outside, The resort-deco remind me of being in Morocco or Tunisia. I was very impressed, I was a bit disappointed at the reception as you can imagine after a long few days of wedding costumes and traditions and our ceremony, all I wanted to do now was checking to our room . But we were having trouble with our booking. Which we booked in advance to avoid any problems. The rooms were nice plus spacious and very comfortable. The grounds was very nice so was the food staff was very friendly. This exquisite. Hotel was on a level on its own it’s like we was in another country, The hotel room wasn’t the best I experience while in the Gambia but the whole experience including the grounds was quite extraordinary and I can see why this is a 5 star resort as the complete package. I will definitely stay here again. I must say being as it was our honeymoon I expect a little bit more from the hotel to make the day a bit more special for us as we did call in advance to let them know. So surprised by the commotion on the reception.
