I’m absolutely disgusted by my recent stay at the County Hotel in Selkirk, which I had to book through my employer. From start to finish, it was a complete nightmare. I arrived and didn’t even have a code to get into the building. The bar staff tried calling the owner and head office twice, but no one answered. The call centre was practically useless, and I was left waiting in frustration with no help. The bar worker was apologetic and offered me a complimentary drink, but that didn’t make up for the absolute lack of professionalism and organization. Then, to make matters worse, the fire alarm went off during the night. Nobody knew what to do, and I was just told it wasn’t a real fire. This is terrifying and unprofessional, to say the least. The food service was a joke. It took forever for my meal to arrive, and when it did, the Chicken Masala was a watery mess—not even close to being edible. I had to order my breakfast the night before (how am I supposed to know what I want to eat for breakfast the next day?), and of course, it was late, cold, and terrible quality. The staff had an appalling attitude to top it all off. As for the room, it was on the top floor, which would be impossible for anyone with mobility issues to access. While it was clean, the décor was cheap, dated, and completely unappealing. To make matters worse, I later discovered that I had been covered in bites—clearly from some sort of infestation. For the price my employer paid (even with a discount), this hotel is an absolute rip-off. The service was appalling, the food was inedible, and the room quality was nothing short of embarrassing. I will NEVER stay here again, and I strongly recommend you avoid this place at all costs. This experience has been a complete disgrace.
