Hôtel très atypique qui a une vue magnifique sur la baie de Funchal. Un réel paradis pour moi car pas trop fréquenté, endroit calme et facile d'accès. Avantage aussi d'être a 10 min seulement Funchal. Le personnel aussi est à vos petits soins. 🥰🥰🥰

Very good location and facility. Old style but everything is well maintained. You need a car to be mobile, as public traffics is only bus line.

Un magnifique hôtel avec une vue à 360 degrés sur l’océan et la baie de funchal !!! La chambre était très belle propre… nous avons beaucoup apprécié prendre notre petit déjeuner tous les Matins face à l’océan…. Les serveurs sont très sympathiques et souriants !!! Je recommande 100% merci à toute l’équipe !!!

Rooms with a fantastic view of the Atlantic Ocean & Funchal Harbour. If you get a room facing the harbour, there's always something to catch a glance of. The cable cars going up & down the mountainous terrain that is the backdrop to the city, to the many cruise boats that vist Madiera every week. Occasionally, youll see a replica of Christopher Columbus's Clipper floating about.  The downside is the continual drone of the traffic below passing endlessly on a daily basis except Sunday.  The rooms are good, clean, comfy beds & the cleaning staff are very friendly & do a good job. The breakfast is okay. Healthier options as well as usual bacon cherrio sausages, eggs fried or scrambled.  There's a pool at the top of the hotel of which the surrounding balconies have even better views of what I previously mentioned.  There's a bar up there which is open during the day with reasonably priced drinks.  The staff are very friendly & will help where possible. They have a shuttle into Funchal every day of which I used once. The guy turned up on time at the pickup spot on time.  It is quite a trek to town walking. This will take an hour. Footpaths on the roads aren't everywhere, so are a bit at the mercy of the traffic.  There's no coffee & tea making facilities in your room of which I found to be a let down.  These little ******* will petre out into into insignificance as you get around the beautiful island of Madiera. The people are the most friendly I've met anywhere in the world. Will be back. 

This beautiful hotel has been at the centre of an unforgettable holiday. The views from the restaurant, pool, bar and balcony really have to be seen to be believed and the whole hotel is kept perfectly clean. The staff are all very friendly and can’t do enough to help you. This included finding us playing cards late one night, answering our questions about the hotel and surrounding area and letting us back into the room when we’d forgotten our transfer ticket! Although it is a 10 minute drive into Funchal, the public transport into the city is very regular and easy to navigate. Overall, couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful stay.

We were booked here as part of a package to visit Madeira. Older 4 star hotel with delightful views of Funchal and the south coast. Rooms are nice, staff members were always courteous, friendly and helpful. Front desk was a wealth of information regarding the island and areas to see. Restaurant is equally good, priced similar to the expected island amounts. Again, staff there was friendly and helpful. The hotel has a city shuttle that even with a rental we preferred when going in Funchal because parking is atrocious as is traffic. We used it 3x when arranging to see Funchal or Monte. Road outside hotel is relatively busy, but few in town are not. Overall a great experience. I hope that the hotel will revisit bathroom/bathtub safety, as we found ours to have a great deal of wear, and in need of nonslip tub stickers etc. A big slip hazard for seniors. Housekeeping staff was incredible, and truly appreciated, making our stay comfortable.

There are several things that really let this hotel down. The rooms have no tea or coffee making facilities, which means that drinks must be purchased from the hotel bar located in the restaurant. A pot of weak Tetley's cost us €8. For comparison, a pot of tea at the Ritz in downtown Funchal costs €4. The restaurant is shockingly overpriced, and has a serious ant problem. Consequently it is mostly deserted. Breakfast buffet is below average with a limited choice of food that runs out quickly. You can either go without, fill up on bread rolls or put it on your table and risk the ants getting it before you do. By 0830 the fried eggs were so dry they were inedible. Aside from the ant problem the hotel is spotlessly clean. We were situated in the accessible bedroom in the new wing. This offers stairs-free access via a number of elevators and long, gently sloping corridors. The bedroom has an ant problem. We were given bug spray by the receptionist. While in reception we saw a mouse running out; maybe it had seen the restaurant prices. The bathroom is spacious and clean, but has that 'drains smell'. The aircon was faulty, resulting in the capacitor discharging in the ceiling, making a loud buzzing noise every couple of minutes even with the power turned off. As this is a fire risk we reported this with the help of Google translate and a maintenance person turned up promptly. Hopefully it will be repaired because sleeping with the windows open is noisy and the mosquitos come in! The rooftop swimming pool is excellent, though unheated. Large enough for a decent swim. The poolside snack bar is sometimes open, sometimes not. When open, the lady plays very loud music, making relaxing a distant dream. Ocean Gardens is perched, vulture-like, on the hillside, with no pedestrian access except for the main road. If you have no transport you must rely on the free shuttle into town (weekdays only) or the local, hair-raising bus that stops outside the hotel (but only if you ring the bell to alert the driver when you want to get off). Fare into town is €2.20 one way. The views from the hotel and gardens are outstanding, but otherwise we felt this is a 2-star hotel masquerading under 4 stars.
