WhyHotel by Placemakr, San Jose

We had a horrible time checking in. The screen to the parking garage went blank and there was no number to call. There was no one at the lobby desk, so there was no way to enter to go up to the office on the 7th floor. My electronic key did not get us into the garage. I had to contact a friend who is a resident there , who then walked us to the desk in her lobby. The person kindly escorted us up to the office in the other building. Took over an hour to get to the apartment. Bedside lightbulb was out and I was emailed the wrong room number, so I did not have the wifi password. Saw it on the wall in tiny print the next morning. Could not reach anyone at 10:30p for the password. This place might be good for longer term stay but not for a weekend. Cleaning fee is high as well for just a night or two. The apartment is nice and would have anything you would need for a longer stay

If you are staying for a weekend or few nights it's a good choice. If you're interested in long stays, then it's an ok choice if you do not cook and are not planning to have any packages/deliveries. We stayed for two months and found only few plates and cutlery (two teaspoons). When we asked for more, we were provided with plastic plates and bowls. Which is better than none I guess. Our packages would often get lost between hotel and the main apartment building and often took days to be found. The reception staff was also pleasant and helpful and I don't want to fault them, it's just a lack of process. Lastly, two days after moving out of WhyHotel to an apartment in the same building my package was stolen from the mailroom by a hotel guest. WhyHotel said they couldn't identify the guest as there were no cameras on the floors, which is a blatant lie. Then also not even bothered to reply to my email asking if potentially house keeping found anything, as this was a parcel containing gift from family. Customer service (and I guess common courtesy) stops after thousands of dollars have been paid and you move out.

We enjoyed our stay at WhyHotel. Finding the property was easy and parking is brightly lit and secure. The staff was friendly and made checking in easy. The building is brand new so everything was clean. The studio had a kitchen with a stove and a full size refrigerator. The best part about it was the balcony which had a great view of downtown San Jose. The king size bed and pillows were very soft and very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size. There's a lot of restaurants and bars close by. We would definitely stay the the WhyHotel again!
