Amba Kola

Ein absolutes Muss im Udawalawe NP. Eine kleine, super gemütliche Unterkunft mit einem sehr angenehmen Inhaber (Janik), welcher die Unterkunft leitet und seiner Mutter, welche unglaublich gut kocht. Wir haben uns vom ersten Moment komplett wohl gefühlt und konnten perfekt entspannen. Janik ist sehr hilfsbereit, erklärt sehr viel und hat einen tolle Einstellung. Wenn man Gutes tut, kommt Gutes zu einem zurück. Die Unterkunft ist relativ abseits gelegen. Ein Besuch im nächsten Restaurant ist daher ohne Fahrzeug nur schwer machbar, aber definitiv auch nicht nötig. Wir waren überwältigt von der Menge an Essen und der dennoch hervorragenden Qualität. Alles wird selber angebaut oder bei lokalen Farmern gekauft. Es wird sehr viel wert auf Bio-Produkte gelegt. Wir hatten das Glück, dass wir beide Zimmer testen konnten, da wir für die erste Nacht ein kostenfreies Upgrade bekommen haben. Die Zimmer und auch der Rest der Unterkunft waren sehr sauber und gepflegt. Durch die Lage ist es nachts auch sehr ruhig und man wird nicht wie sonst häufig von bellenden Straßenhunden wachgehalten. Janik ist es super wichtig, dass man alles hat, was man braucht und er kümmert sich hervorragend. Wir können die bisherigen hervorragenden Bewertungen daher nur zu 100% bestätigen. Wir sollen unseren Aufenthalt in 2-3 Sätzen beschreiben aber wir könnten ein ganzes Buch über diesen Ort und diese Menschen schreiben. Janik, Louis und Shwarma behandelten uns kaiserlich. Wir hatten leider keine guten Erfahrungen im Banyan Camp und haben den Ort fluchtartig verlassen, Janick hat uns gratis von dort abgeholt während seine Mutter ein wahres Festmal für uns zubereitete was unsere Stimmung ins endlose katapultiert hat. Der Empfang fühlte sich an als würde man nach einer langen Reise nach Hause kommen. Wir wurden außerdem gratis in ein noch schöneres Zimmer geupgraded. Die Zimmer sind extrem modern, das Freiluft Bad ein absoluter Hingucker und das sauberste Bad dass ich je in Sri Lanka gesehen habe, das Bett ein Traum - was uns auch sehr gefällt, ist, dass es in dem Zimmer eine Klimaanlage sowie einen Ventilator gibt, so wird die kalte Luft super verteilt und man wird nicht krank von der Klimaanlage. Sofort wurde uns angeboten unsere Kleidung GRATIS zu waschen, die Bettlacken wurden alle 2 Tage gewechselt und das komplette Zimmer gereinigt. Wer denkt das war alles - nein. Das Essen ist köstlich, wir können es garnicht in Worte fassen wie lecker es ist! Jeden Tag wurden wir gefragt was wir denn gerne hätten - da wir Fisch lieben wurde jeden Tag der frischste Fisch und die frischesten Meeresfrüchte besorgt, dafür zahlen sie auch gerne um einiges mehr wurde uns gesagt und so schmeckt es auch! Es wird sehr auf die Zutaten geachtet und das meiste wird im eigenen Garten angebaut, Shwarma kennt jeden Halm der auf ihren Grundstück wächst und weiß diese auch gekonnt einzusetzten. Diese Frau zaubert kulinarische Wunder, Tag für Tag. Janick und Louise haben uns die wunderschönsten Plätze in der Umgebung gezeigt, Wasserfälle mit natürlichen Rutschen, kleine Dörfer, Seen, einen Kanal zum Baden - EINFACH ALLES! Also wer nur nach Udawalawe für die Safari kommen will wird es bereuen! Dieser Ort bietet so viel mehr als den Nationalpark - das Amba Kola ist ein wahrer Geheimtipp da die Menschen vor Ort es magisch machen. Wir haben kurz erwähnt dass wir auf Flitterwochen hier sind und wurden am Abend mit einem Feuerwerk & einer Torte überrascht - nichtmal unsere engsten Freunde haben so etwas zu unserer Hochzeit arrangiert, es war wirklich unglaublich, am nächsten Tag wurde ein singhalesisches Hochzeitsshooting mit Sari und allem drum herum organisiert, diese Menschen sind zum niederknien. Man fühlt sich hier nicht als Gast sondern als Familienmitglied. Es ist einfach magisch hier an diesem Ort. Danke für Alles und diese unvorstellbar schöne Zeit. Liebe Grüße Peter&Sophie

Después de varias noches durmiendo en hoteles de calidad media, encontramos esta joya de hotel. Realmente es una experiencia que merece la pena: habitaciones decoradas con muchísimo gusto y altos estándares de limpieza, localización perfecta para visitar Udawalawe y alrededores, facilidades para traslados con jeep propio y todo de forma sostenible y respetando la naturaleza del lugar. La comida y el trato recibido por Janik y su familia merecen una mención especial. Comimos la mejor variedad de curries de Sri Lanka y que decir de los desayunos a base de hoppers, granola casera, fruta recién recogida, requeson de buffalo etc! Janik nos ha tratado como familia durante y después de nuestra estancia en Amba Kola, es un anfitrión genial. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente esta maravilla de experiencia.

It's definitely a one of a kind.ambakola is one of the best choices. From check-in to checkout the friendly service and beautiful soothing nature, you can't not feel relaxed. It was an awesome experience. The rooms were elegantly spaced, with ample amenities. The food was tasty with quite a good variety. The staff were friendly and hospitable always a smile on their face and kind words. Specially Mr. Sanju was super helpful during the stay and very endearing the way he interacted with my son and made the stay a good experience. Overall, it's a wonderful place to relax and be one with nature. It sure was one of the best vacations I've had and looking forward to visiting soon.

Wow where to start with this review. I have visited many places in the world and this has to be the experience that will stick with me forever. The hospitality I received from Janik and his mother from the moment I arrived, to the moment I left, was simply outstanding. As a solo female traveller, it is important to feel secure and the reviews for this hotel were what initially stuck out to me; I can confirm they are not wrong. In the short two days I was there, I felt like I was home. Starting with the room, it was super clean & spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The outdoor bathroom was very private and it was a real treat to shower under the stars; the accommodation is even better than the pictures! Next onto the food: I ate all my meals at the property for two days and Janik’s mother is an outstanding cook of Sri Lankan food. I also took her cooking class offering and we had so much fun cooking up the biggest feast you can imagine - I would totally recommend doing this. The garden is packed full of all different sorts of organic fruits and vegetables and we picked some of these in the morning, ready to use when making dinner. Janik was also kind enough to show me the area and the sugar cane fields, which was a great insight into local life. The property is tucked off the main road which makes it very quiet and peaceful, but still it is only minutes from the national park entrance. Lastly onto the main event of the safari, which was the most wonderful experience; Janik organised everything with an experienced driver and even accompanied me which I really appreciated. We saw many elephants (absolutely beautiful), crocodiles, birds, buffalo, deer and wild boar. I also loved the dogs and cats at the house too who were super adorable, but also very chilled and non imposing (in case you don’t like animals!). All I can say is be quick and do not hesitate to just book this place if there is availability - you will not regret it! A completely magical experience in the heart of Udawalawa.

Wow. What a stay here at Amba Kola! Yanik and his mother did everything they could (and beyond) to make my two nights' stay the most enjoyable and comfortable. With its impeccable cleanliness, attention to detail, top-notch hospitality, insane gastronomy, stunning landscapes, a smooth and informative safari, Amba Kola definitely beats all the other guesthouses and restaurants I've seen in two months of travelling around Sri Lanka 😍 The family really goes the extra mile to keep everything run smoothly and improve themselves every day. Could not recommend more.
