皇后之首飯店(The Queens Head Hotel)

Booked the Queens Head as a last minute bank holiday getaway and we couldn’t have made a better choice. The pub itself has a great traditional feel with a very welcoming atmosphere. All of the staff were lovely, and although very hard working, always had time for us. Very happy with our twin room on the 3rd floor with its large, spacious shower room and lovely clean comfortable beds. Breakfast was delicious and served without delay. Off-street parking is also available in the hotel car park! We couldn’t find anything that we didn’t like and will definitely return for another stay!!

I booked a king size room at the Queens Head because on the website the pictures of the rooms looked nice and also the reviews regarding food were good. Two days before travelling we had to rearrange to the following week I rang the hotel and asked for my booking to be transferred I had checked the website and the same room was available. I was told I would get confirmation from Penny the owner. Four days later I still had not received confirmation so I rang again and spoke to a lady who was the new manager and was told yes Penny had transferred the booking and Uighur would definitely receive confirmation. On arrival it was clear why I had not received confirmation the room allocated was the smallest room imaginable 4 floors up in the attic with twin beds, no room for any seating you needed a ladder to see out of the only skylight window and I was charged only £3 less than the price of the king size room. I went back down to see the manager and was told there were no other rooms as they were fully booked (but there had been rooms available when I altered the booking) Oh and there was no food that evening as she had no chef! Could this stay get any worse. The new manager was lovely but even her pleasant personality could not make up for this disastrous stay.

We stopped for Sunday lunch as we were in the area. Staff sat us at our table and took our drinks order. We waited 15 minutes ( only 3 tables eating at the time who had all been served) still didn’t receive our drinks, we ended up asking to order food and to receive our drinks. The food was average, the cauliflower cheese was obviously from frozen. It was swimming in water in the bowl it was served in. The beef wasn’t the best. Never got asked whether or not our food was good at all. Seems as though the waitresses and waiters don’t communicate with one another.

My wife and I only came here to eat, the service was ok, friendly, the food was ok but the beer was terrible. It certainly wasn't great but from looking around Rothbury it was the best pub the village could offer.

Stayed for two nights on a B & B basis. Evening meal was excellent but when it came to breakfast the servers didn’t understand egg cooking request. The first breakfast was sent back and when it was returned instead of the requested broken, turned and cooked right through egg which I requested originally it came back cremated (originally poached). The second day it came poached after being requested again as the day before, instead it came back fried with a runny yolk. Having asked to see the chef he didn’t even understand what I wanted and refused to talk to me and walked away. The breakfast by this time was cold and not edible. No management on duty to talk to either.

Good: pets allowed; excellent evening meal; hot water; clean bedding & bathroom; friendly staff. Not so good: ripped wallpaper; chips in furniture; in serious need of tlc; window frame absolutely filthy (photo wouldn't load); hairdryer elec point nowhere near a mirror; found bed far too soft; only 2 teabags ( yes, could've asked for more); problems at breakfast my order was missed then I didn't get what I'd asked for, arrived after everyone else had finished. Disappointing. Much work needs to be done to bring this potentially good place up to scratch.

On getting there, no reception as the reception sign points at at a wall, so we had to walk through busy bar to get room key, then told fully booked for dinner, as guests we were then left to wait a long time for cold and soggy pies. Might have been better than breakfast had we decided to wait over 40 mins in the morning to get it. previous customers had left theirs uneaten, ran out of juice, and unusual to have a very specific only 1 hour breakfast served between 8.30-9.30 rule, not sure if that includes the waiting for it. But you’d expect everything to be ready to serve if that’s the case. Usual British polite reply though as the previous confrontation a brave customer had with the manager was dealt with the previous night in a highly inappropriate and unnecessary manner by the manager. Keep an open mind and feel free to decide for yourself, however I would highly recommend….anywhere else…

Very disappointing stay and can't believe this place is rated very good on here. On check in was advised dinner was available until 8pm and when went to the restaurant was advised couldnt have dinner. Only when stating that had just checked in did this position change. Dinner was cold and very disappointing and saw how the owner dealt with another complaint at another table. Sat at breakfast for over 30 minutes after ordering and eventually gave up and left without any. Requested some orange juice and was informed they had run out!!!
