Having previously stayed (and loved) their sister hotel, Finca Cortesin, we were excited to stay at Grand Hotel Son Net. While the hotel is nice, there were a number of things that left a bad taste in our mouth. The good bits: - The hotel and the grounds are stunning. Especially the pool. - The breakfast is delicious and service excellent The bad bits: - On booking our room (which cost €1500 per night) we were told there’s normally a €95/night surcharge for bringing our 9 month old son but that we would not be charged on this occasion as it’s our first stay. It’s ridiculous that they would consider charging anything to bring a baby. We have never stayed anywhere that levies such a high surcharge for a baby. - Before we arrived we requested a bottle steriliser for our baby; something that has been free in every other hotel we’ve stayed in. They emailed back saying it would cost €32 to “rent” one for 3 days. - On arrival, we didn’t even know if we’d come to the right place as there was no one around to greet us (despite security having alerted reception to our arrival when we drove in). We had to go inside and ask at reception to get help. It didn’t feel a very welcoming environment for a 5* hotel. - We asked for a bowl of puréed vegetable to be brought to our room to feed our son which they charged us €26 for. We didn’t expect to be charged the price of an adult main course for something so simple. We have stayed in multiple 5* hotels with our baby and things like this have always been provided complimentary - The lunch restaurant doesn’t start service until 1pm and the earliest booking for the dinner restaurant is 7.30pm, both of which are too late if you have young children. We opted for room service but unfortunately the menu is limited and the only options for a main meal are either a salad or burger. - You have to lock yourself into the room with a large metal key, otherwise the door just pushes open. While we appreciate this is an older property and they’re trying to keep the original features, it also didn’t feel safe. - At the pool we asked for a water which was brought in a small bottle and we were then charged €7 for this. Again, I would not expect to be charged for water at a 5* hotel. It’s especially odd considering the same water is free in our room. While the the hotel did their best to accommodate us, ultimately we didn’t feel itit was setup for parents with babies. We felt they were prioritising making a profit from our child rather than trying to make life as easy as possible for the parents. We would not recommend coming here with a baby.
