莫加迪奧達喀爾爾卡塔爾飯店(Morgadio da Calcada Douro Wine&Tourism)

Nous avons séjourné en famille pour célébrer une rencontre. Le choix de cette propriété au milieu des vignes a été un succès : le contraste entre la demeure vieille de plusieurs siècles, témoin d'histoires d'une famille accueillante et les chambres très contemporaines et ultra confortables, un dîner aux chandelles avec dégustation de plats raffinés et vin de premier choix nous font recommander chaleureusement ce bel endroit. Cuando traspasas la puerta tras ver la fachada de esa bonita mansión antigua, entras en un espacio pensado para disfrutar. Disfrutar un desayuno o una cena junto a los viñedos que pasan a estar presentes en tu vida estos días. Paseando entre ellos al amanecer o al atardecer, o bebiendo una botella de su vino, allí sentado. Disfrutar de una piscina pequeña pero muy chula. Disfrutar de un desayuno estrecho en su amplitud pero con todo delicioso. Con su perra Kira dando vueltas por allí, desconfiada pero con ganas de que le hicieras caso. Las habitaciones en otro pequeño edificio con sus patios donde puedes salir a leer o sentarte, con un cuidado baño en una coqueta, quizá un poco pequeña, habitación. Y con un servicio discreto y siempre disponible. Provesende es una pequeña freguesia portuguesa, con encanto, aunque no sea el centro del Douro, pero la estancia en Morgadio de Calçada ha sido una verdadera gozada.

Bel posto e personale molto disponibile. Mangiare e vini ottimi. Peccato che in piscina non ci sono sdraio o sedie.

We verbleven slechts 1 nacht in Morgadio da Calcada (op doorreis doorheen de Douro-valei), De kamers en de eetzaal zijn gevestigd in de oude stallen van dit 18e eeuwse pand en allemaal modern en knus ingericht. Een eenvoudig maar lekker ontbijt en (beperkte) diner-mogelijkheden zijn voor alle gasten voorzien. Wandelen tussen de aanpalende wijngaard of een duik in het mooie zwembad behoort tot de mogelijkheden

You wouldn’t know from the outside gate, but once you’re inside, it is a small charming inn set on acres of vineyards. The owner,Manuel was gracious and patient in answering all our questions about the history of the place. I loved the cook to order eggs for breakfast and the fresh squeezed orange juice.

Provesende is an interesting village in the hills above Pinhau. It used to be the haunt of the rich and nobility with many fine houses but now most are deserted. Morgadio da Calcada has been in the same family for centuries and quite recently decided to expand from just wine into the tourist business by converting a couple of outbuildings into eight hotel rooms. This has been interestingly done but with some problems: The bedrooms are small and with no desk or shelving so nowhere to put books or papers, the water took four minutes to run hot, we could not operate the television, although later told that we should have used two controllers! There is a communal sitting and dining room in the old house, attractive and with a log fire. Breakfast was excellent with fresh scrambled eggs and a decent choice considering that we were the only two guests. However at €121 for b&b we felt this was a bit expensive for the standard of bedroom.

Our travel consultant, Tour Tailors, booked us into Morgadio da Calcana for two nights of a 14 night, you-drive, independent tour of Portugal. Of all the very nice hotels we stayed at, this stood out as our most memorable. This is a small, boutique hotel with a handful of modern, sp****ly decorated but elegant en suite guest rooms created out of the stone sheds and out buildings of the main manor house with its 20’ high ceilings that dates back to this family’s original ownership in 1610. What made this so special for us was the personal involvement of the owner, Manuel and his daughter and sons, the totally relaxing a**osphere of the Morgadio da Calcana vineyards that surround you, and the superb candlelight, four course dinners with wonderfully paired ports and wine (which you can buy and have shipped home) from their very own grapes. It was a little hard to find as it is way up in the hills above the Douro Valley, but the drive there was incredibly beautiful. On arrival, once you locate the inauspicious doorway (it took us almost 10 minutes to locate it) and step through the beamed portal, you enter another world. You won’t be sharing this secret with a bus load of tourists. This is a special place that you should go out of your way to experience.

We loved our stay! The location is magic and the hotel is so special- intact since the 17th century, so unique!! Food was really wonderful and we felt welcomed and valued. Rooms are small but luxurious, the sheets divine, and wandering the vines, orchard and village was just a fabulous way to end the day. Highly recommend!

This gem is located in Provesende, a small village perched on a hill surrounded by grape vines. It is a little off the tourist track, but quiet, beautiful and still close to Pinhão and the Douro River. First impressions of Morgadio da Calçada are WOW and it only gets better after you meet the staff and the owner Emanuel. Emanuel and his son are passionate about their family’s country home, its history and success. The rooms are clean, private and well presented. The formal set three course evening meal is delightful along with the four wines and two ports that accompany the meal. We enjoyed the peace and quiet offered by the property, the freedom to walk around the vineyard and the tranquility enjoying a wine under the shady trees. The second evening we dined and mixed with the locals in the village. It was a very enjoyable and memorable night. Perfect location to get away for a few days to unwind and recharge the batteries.
