We tried, in October 2019, booking a room on the net for the 2020 Manx Grand Prix but none were available, and it said to contact the hotel direct. We called and were given a room, for which we were to immediately over the phone pay a deposit of £220. When Covid stopped the 2020 MGP, we e-mailed to ask what was to happen next, and were informed that as we had booked a non-refundable rate, they would very graciously refund half of our deposit as a "gesture of goodwill." But we'd not been given a choice - no-one had mentioned that there was a refundable rate, so we wrote back that we were looking into this. Of course, 2021 was also cancelled, and finally the MGP was to go ahead in 2022. We decided to approach the hotel staff face to face whilst there. Bikers talk to each other, and none of the other guests had lost half of their deposits. They thought we should speak to Reception. The result, after a conversation and several e-mails, is that they are not refunding any further money, and out of three hotels and one ferry company used on this trip, the Arrandale is the only one to profit from Covid. I find this exceptionally greedy. Strangely, in the meantime, the story has gone from doing us a personal favour as a "gesture of goodwill," to now claiming that they did this to everyone who booked and paid the non-refundable rate. This is not what we were told by the other guests. Also, their website, which hasn't been updated for over a year, says that if you have to cancel in 2021 due to another lockdown, you'll get a "no-quibble" full refund. Sadly for us they are refusing to extend that guarantee to include the previous year. If you have booked to stay in this hotel, keep your fingers crossed you don't have to cancel. Make sure you know what you are paying for. It seems once they get your money, it is a prisoner.
