Art-Deco Charm Steps Away from Canal Saint-Martin

Would not book again The location was excellent—steps away from canal st Martin with pharmacy, bakery, and monoprix grocery across the street. Metro service with two different lines easily accessible, and within easy walking distance to the gare de l’est. Communication with the host was terrible. I reached out twice through the VRBO text service and received no response. I did not receive check in instructions until the day before my arrival. I had to call VRBO customer support twice for assistance to have them contact the host. Only then did the host reply to me. There was an on site manager and she was kind but we had some miscommunication and I wound up waiting outside the place for 30 minutes in sweltering heat with my 80 yr old parents. The apartment has many little sets of stairs. It is not conducive to elderly folks or those with difficulty walking. The bedroom depicted on the picture is on a platform and one needs to climb stairs to get to it. The bathroom was not clean. I scrubbed the toilet upon arrival because that was not clean either. Floor is peeling in the bathroom. Mildew and mold in the shower. Toilet closet needs a paint job. All in all, great location, very interesting apartment (no tv, no air conditioning), and if you are young and very mobile and don’t care too much about a clean bathroom and shower, it’s fine. If you expect a place that is up to date, pristine in cleanliness, look elsewhere. I will not book this again.
