Unfortunately I can’t recommend The Orient Hotel Onomichi. I didn’t receive any communication from the ‘hotel’ owner before my stay. I messaged twice to check everything was ok ahead of my stay but received no reply. I called the telephone number provided, when I arrived at the train station, again no reply.
It was not easy locating the hotel, and it’s a 20 plus minute walk from the station. When you arrive at the ‘hotel ‘ you are asked to complete a basic check in process on a tablet. I tried imputing my information multiple times without success, so walked back to the station. I tried calling again , the owner picked up this time but unfortunately they don’t speak English. Completely understandable but it doesn’t make the process easy. Luckily someone was able to help me by speaking to the owner, and after a long conversation, which at one stage looked like there was no booking in my name, I managed to got the access code to the room. It turned out that my information had been inputted into their system incorrectly by the owner.
It was a frustrating experience, and could have been dangerously if I had arrived late at night.
I still haven’t heard back from the ‘hotel’ owner, even though I was asked by Trip.com to email them about my experience. Trip.com haven’t been able to contact them either . Communication is so important especially when you are travelling.
In my opinion I don’t think Trip.com should be promoting this property, which felt more like an Airbnb than a hotel. P.s I enjoyed my stay in Onomichi.
