We flew through nyc from France for one night to see my sister’s newborn. And wanted a large space to accommodate them. The room was perfect and did not disappoint. My uncle owned a place there in the past and I have great memories there. However, they charge for every jot and tittle of service —early check in, late checkout. No snacks, no tea at reception, no recognition of weary travels. The next day I asked for late checkout. It was pouring rain, and my husband and friend had driven 3 hours to pick us up. We wanted to get lunch before our drive home. And I wanted the kids to change and wash up after lunch for the drive. They said I would be charged $200 for that. I should add I was the only guest aside from one other I saw in my 24 hour experience. There was no rush on our room. I also had to call once and finally ask the elevator operator for speedy help putting the sofa bed back together so we could all sit in the living room once my husband arrived. Finally someone came and was extra helpful. But for the amount staff relative to guests, I don’t understand the delay. For Carlyle prices or more, I expect more.
