懷皮亞塔草窩旅館(Tussock Lodge - Waipiata)

This is a relatively new building, set up for people cycling the Otago Rail Trail. We had already cycled the trail and came back as we liked the look of the place. It has four self-contained double rooms, each with ensuites. One is wheelchair accessible. There is a central kitchen/living area, and an upstairs recreation room. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower provided water good pressure. My only suggestion is for a soap rack/holder for shampoo in the shower. Breakfast was included in the room rate, and was available on a "help yourself basis". Yoghurt, cereals, bread, eggs, milk (various types), and condiments were all provided, plus a coffee machine and a choice of teas. It's an easy walk to the Waipiata Pub for dinner (for their famous pies), or you could bring your own food and cook a good meal in the very well appointed kitchen. Plenty of pots and pans and crockery available. And wine glasses, of course! Just put the dishwasher on when you leave. There's also a laundry, which I think was available at no extra charge (we didn't use it). I would certainly recommend this as a great place to stay, and you could even book it out for a group or family gathering. It's very comfortable and warm, with heat pumps in every room and in the living area.

Six of us stayed while on the rail trail. Very comfortable and well appointed rooms and facilities. Each room has its own bathroom. Laundry is also available. Large shared lounge and kitchen. Excellent continental breakfast provided. Hotel is not too far away (can walk) for a meal and a drink.

4 of us stayed here with our 5 horses in the paddock next door. Our rooms and the central lounge were immaculately clean, the beds are soooo comfortable with triple sheeting and high quality sheets. Strong hot showers and fluffy towels. There were so many small details that made us feel welcome. The breakfast was generous and delicious. We would all love to come back. Highly recommended and don’t forget to go to the pub for a great dinner! We could see why locals knew we would enjoy it.

Excellent service and stunning facilities. Short walk to Waipiata Hotel. Breakfast facilities and provision up to high standard. Very warm and nice relaxing lounge. Mark, the host, could not be more helpful. Food at Waipiata hotel was good and wide choice
