We totally enjoyed our stay at the Dunes Village Resort. It was an unforgettable experience! The balcony in our room was the ”it” factor for me. We could hear and see the beauty and majesty of the Atlantic ocean. The room was very clean and comfortable! We were on the 6th floor and it was the best view! The atmosphere was peaceful and cozy! Parking was spot on, but be sure at check-in to confirm which parking area A or B you are assigned to. Be aware of time share solicitation with food coupons. They are set up in the lobby of Resort. (Just know all all the details if you opt to participate). Note, the seafood Buffets in Myrtle Beach is very expensive. Overall, as far as the Dunes Village Resort we were wowed by the elegant room, indoor amusement, and the outstanding, professional staff! We will come back in future!
This was out third stay at this property. Our first stay was when is first opened. We stayed for 4 nights and overall had a great experience. Star at the front desk was really nice and very informative. Here are the Pros & Cons of this hotel. Pros: -They have done a decent job keeping up with the maintenance of the property. -The lobby/common area is bright, modern, and offers an amazing view of the beach. Wether you are eating breakfast or just want to read a good book in an inviting atmosphere -Room-spacious (we used suite rewards to upgrade to an executive double queen studio), full kitchen, decor was modern and flooring allows room to look and smell clean since there is no wall to wall carpeting. -Large balcony-can store beach chairs and umbrella, while still having room to sit -Ocean view and Oceanfront rooms both offered nice views (we have stayed in both types) -Location-quiet less populated area of the beach. This may be a con for some because there is not a lot to do within walking distance. -Fitness area-modern equipment, spacious enough. Included ellipticals, treadmills, weight machine, balls, etc. Cons -Bathroom- spacious, but not sure why there is only half of a shower door. I also wish that the shower head was detachable. -Breakfast could be improved. When we visited a couple of years ago the buffet had things like Brie cheese & chocolate croissants. No such luck this time. The quality is not great (eg. tasteless eggs, watery oatmeal, limited fruit selection). -Housekeeping-this is an extended stay location so they no longer clean your room everyday. You only get a “refresh” (remove trash and replace towels) after 3 days. I wish Marriott would remove the option in the APP for housekeeping everyday for these hotels. You opt in only to find out it’s not possible. -Parking garage-it’s tight and challenging to maneuver, but I appreciate that it’s covered, easy to get to, and there is ample parking. There are 15 min check in areas on the first floor which are helpful. The problem is that people still double park and cause traffic to back up. -Beach-the area in front of the hotel is very rocky (bring water shoes). I also did not like that the chair rental company set up their items in a line (chairs & umbrella) obscuring the view for everyone else. We were forced to set up our chairs behind theirs and did not have as nice a view of the water. Overall, we still like this property and will eventually come back.
The hotel is lovely. My room was fine except for ”rust” in the bath tub. I could not take a bath. I did not report it intitially was there for a conference and did not have time nor did I want to change rooms and was not sure there were rooms available. Boy, did the clerk at the front desk ream me when I checked out and mentioned it and wanted them to make amends. She said it was my fault I did not report it and said I called down on the second day to the front desk from my room phone and it rang and rang. She saId I could have stopped by during my conference. I said I want to speak to a manager - the manager was nice and after repeating multiple times saying it wasn't intentional - I cut her off and said I want a meal comped. She provided a $40 credit. Obviously, Mariott doesn't train their employees that the customer is right.
Our stay was from 8/30/2024 to 9/2/2024. We arrived later in the evening on the 30th of August. We were tired from our journey and wanted to check in as soon as possible. We were immediately taken care of by Jeannie at the front desk. Jeannie was professional, kind, and polite. She checked us in quickly at the front desk and we were relaxing in our room in no time. Jeannie went above and beyond by being a wonderful, joyful, and professional person. Thank you Jeannie, we appreciate you. During our stay we were treated very well by every staff member we came across. I would say that ”Southern Hospitality” is a very real thing because we experienced it first hand. We absolutely enjoyed our stay. Thank you to everyone who made that possible. We appreciate you all.
SSunday SClearly, ”clean” is relative. The hotel has a sheen of dust/dirt. Their standards of clean are subpar. I'm so disappointed in the hotel. Front desk staff was VERY friendly and helpful. One housekeeper had to come and clean again after we checked in and she was super pleasant. Hair on shower wall, greasy tile floors that hadn't been mopped, dust and sand on the desk and other surfaces. Remotes were filthy (I always travel with bleach wipes and the wipes had visible dirt on them from the buttons). The breakfast was ho-hum and the area not that clean. Serving utensils were never cleaned or swapped out. And hot food and Styrofoam plates and bowls is diabolical. The young man was nice. The lady was rude and had on a dirty shirt at 7:30am. Toddler underwear were in one of the elevators for more than 24 hours. Trash can was dirty at 6:55am. The bulk of the housekeeping staff appear to be white women, and as a black woman in the South, they did not feel hospitable (to me, and I know the vibe well). They barely speak even when greeted. I'm a platinum IHG member on a tour with Holiday Inn Vacations. Both companies should be ashamed.
When I arrived, I was directed to the RCI office. I walked in the office and was told right away by a young lady I had to step out in the hallway and they would bring me some paperwork. Not a welcome or hello or anything positive. I wrote it off that she was having a bad day. I notice in the room there were not kitchen items so I went back down on Monday to ask and the first thing she said was ”well we gave you a kitchen pack”. She didn't because if she did, I would not have wasted my time. A disagreement of sorts started. She was very rude and just sort of a pack on the counter and said they are free, just take this one. That told me Saturday was not a Bad day. This person doesn't need to be in customer service. Customer service was no where to be found in both interactions I had with her. In addition, RCI guest didn't get pool towels, didn't know that. No oven pads and the dining room table was metal and very sticky. I scrubbed the table but it was still sticky. In my 24 years of timeshare travel I have never seen a metal table and chairs (old too) in a timeshare room. first time we didn't get pool towels too. The room itself was OK and the view of the ocean was outstanding. The music from the bar didn't allow us to sleep until after 11 PM. Maybe noise curtains on the patio door would help.
