Cross-country road trip, motel #9: The room was fine -- clean, comfortable, pet-friendly. The property and clientele was less than desirable -- there was an overflowing garbage can near our room, the gate to the pool was stuck, and the guest in the room next to us left their two dogs alone until 11pm, so there was constant barking. Not the motel's fault, but it's people like this who make it hard to find pet-friendly motels, grrrrr.

terrible hotel and terrible manager john chapman. our room flooded from a storm ruining our clothes and medical supplies. they offered to dry our stuff and move us. that would have been fine if my LIFE SAVING MEDICAL EQUIPTMENT was not ruined. but IT WAS! we had NO choice but to leave the next day. we had to cut our stay short because you know, I want to LIVE. chapman agreed to a one day refund, BUT because I left a bad review on his staffs attitude, he is now declining it! says in other posts because I left a negative review he’s not doing anything! what a GREAT manager! he should be fired for his lying and attitude! complete @ss and should not be allowed to help others. because let’s face it, he’s not helping! how can someone stay when they literally can NOT. I chose to live and I get f’d over having to pay for something I didn’t get. STAY AWAY FROM THESE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE PEOPLE

Clean and functional, the hotel is cheap and a good base, we used to stay in Charleston but it is so expensive these days - Mount pleasant and the red roof is a good option as we were playing golf. Ground floor rooms are prone to flooding in severe rain, but hotel staff (which is very stretched) did well.

Very satisfied with my experience at Red Roof Plus in Charleston. Friendly, helpful desk clerks. The room was clean and comfortable. The only problem I had was with the toilet; it ran after I flushed it, and I couldn't get it to stop. I didn't complain as I got in late at night. I figured the cleaning staff would find it after I left and notify the desk. The price was extremely reasonable. The room had everything I needed. I was in an end unit upstairs, and it was very quiet. 4/5 stars

This is a good choice for a cheap no-frills hotel but we will pay a little more for someplace better next time. The so-called non-smoking room smelled of smoke. Toilet had hair on it. Ceiling was peeling in places. Bathtub spigot was loose. Bed was fine. This was really nice about 10 years ago when it was renovated. But looks like it hasn’t had any serious maintenance since.

My husband stayed at Mount Pleasant Red Roof. It was awful from the start. The remotes don't work, no problem, I need a refrigerator, sorry you have to switch rooms for that, ok no problem. So I return home on the weekend with a line of strange bites from his shoulder down his arm. I immediately tell him those are bed bug bites. We had to decontaminate everything! He is unfortunately booked at the same Red Roof for the following week and when he shows up to check the front desk ( who I have to tell you are extremely rude and lazy) basically calls him a liar, that they do not have bed bugs. Since he was already booked he asked for a different room, with a fridge and microwave since he has to be there all week, front desk informs him this week he will have to pay extra for the fridge and microwave. Even though he didn't last week. At this point he decided it may be best to leave, he went down to the Estended Stay and can recommend that one!

Let me preface this review by saying we often travel on a budget, so by no means were we expecting this hotel to be perfect. I also usually never write negative reviews, but I felt that I needed to warn others about this as I did not see any other reviews mentioning it. Upon our arrival, we went to check in, and we started getting harassed by a man in the lobby. We were clearly very uncomfortable and he kept going - talking about how he lived there, trying to inquire about us & how long we were staying, etc. But to top that off, he asked the manager behind the desk if the new employee was “hot” to which she just replied, “yeah she’s alright.” So she was just going along with his behavior. We were extremely worried because he lingered around seemingly trying to find out which room we were staying in. Now I will say that at this point, we were mostly just concerned about our safety so the state of the room was not even our biggest concern, but yes, the room was also trash. Lots of trash, lots of things broken (another safety concern was that the lock seemed a bit… loose.) SO dirty. One pillow for each of us that were like cardboard. But again, it’s funny because that wasn’t even our biggest concern. In the end, we were supposed to stay for three days but we ended up just booking another hotel and staying there.. meaning we lost almost $400 on this place and had to spend another $600 to stay somewhere else. So if that gives you any perspective, we took almost a $1000 hit just to leave this place - which is EXTREMELY out of our budget. Just want to make other travels aware… if you can at all afford to stay somewhere else, even if money is tight. I would highly highly recommend it.

Kinda hard to find when you don't know the city. The night clerk was having a rough night as well and this all almost ended before it began. after deep breaths on both sides check in went smoothly . The room was in the back and quite . Lobby coffee was ok and the water pressure and temperature were great. Would stay here again also picked because dog friendly

Stayed at this hotel for 5 days while on vacation with my family. Rooms are decent for a budget friendly hotel. The only highlight of this stay was Melody at the front desk who was able to check us in at 5 am and was all around helpful. As for the room, it was decently clean but there are hardly any outlets to plug stuff in and the fridge and microwave were not able to be plugged in at the same time. Service is where the stay was lacking. Not once in our stay did anyone from the staff come to change our beds or atleast give us new towels. When I called to request new towels the gentleman at the desk said I would have to call back the following morning and request them then. When I did call again, the lady said I would have to walk to to front desk myself and get them. When I got to the desk I asked for extra towels since they're were none at the pool but was told I couldn't receive anymore than 4, even though we had no towels nor had anyone come to change our room out. Everytime I would call the front desk to request or inquire, I would just get the run-around. Overall very poor service and I will be staying somewhere else when I visit Charleston again.

I know, I know…I shouldn’t expect much from a Red Roof Inn…well, we didn’t get much. It was clean. The beds were comfortable. I’ll give it that. The air conditioner barely worked. It’s June…in South Carolina…we need air. Two people in our party slept on the floor right in front of the air conditioner to get as cool as possible. When I called the front desk, there was zero compassion. The pillows were flat pieces of nothing. Stains in the chairs and places in the wall where things had been patched and not repainted. It was cheap and it served its purpose, but we will not ever stay here again.
