We didn’t have reservations, but stopped because the outside looked so nice. The room was spotlessly clean and freshly painted! There was even a small table that we used for snacking and playing cards. Great price and far exceeded my expectations. Staff was friendly and helpful, too!

This Motel 6 is so odd. It has some very nice parts. When I first opened the door I was impressed. It looked clean (it is), with modern, new, updated furniture and features (very large new mirror that is backlit, marble shower walls, new modern sink and faucet, and more). The mattresses are firm, but more comfortable than I expect at a motel. They seem to be some type of foam/memory foam. I paid for the more expensive room so that we could have a fridge and microwave. Both are fine. Now, here is why I wouldn’t stay here again: although the furnishings are new and modern, they are odd and mismatched. The two bedside lamps are very different (one very tall and circular, the other shorter and a rectangle). Although we have a room with two queen beds, the room seems to be built for a king sized bed, as there is an outlet directly in the middle of the wall above the head of each bed. This means I can’t easily charge my phone while I’m on the bed. The dresser, although nice looking, is a weird trapezoid shape that juts into the room (I literally can’t figure out what one would use something like this for, or where). The beds are tall (yay!) and have these attractive black walls under them so nothing can go under the bed. Great, it looks good. They are made of metal, and we are constantly kicking them. They clang and sound like if you were to kick a filing cabinet. When you are on the bed, if you move too much, you can hear them vibrating. If you are a light sleeper, this might keep/wake you up. The TV is small (maybe 30” or so?), and uses DIRECTV. We couldn’t get the remote to work. The man in front came to our room and showed us that there is a black wire that the remote goes to, and the black wire needs to sit in front of the box so that the remote will work. There are blackout curtains (yay!) but they are too long and cover the heater/AC. There are no sheer curtains, so when we are in the room we either are on display for anyone walking by, or have blackout curtains closed and rely on fluorescent/LED lights. Bottom line: if it is late at night, you’re driving, and you just need somewhere to lay your head, it’s fine. If you actually need somewhere to stay while you’re here, don’t bother. We’re here for 3 nights, and I can’t wait to leave.
JJonathan FMy stay at Cannery Row Inn in Monterey was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. We were given an accessibility room, but it was anything but accessible. The furniture was scratched and damaged, and there was a large tear in the carpet. The shower head was adjustable, but it kept sliding back to the bottom if raised, making it practically unusable. Worst of all, the bathroom door sticks so badly that my wife and I both got trapped inside at different points and needed each other's help to get out. This would be a nightmare for someone with accessibility needs, especially if they were in a wheelchair. The room overlooked a busy street, and the noise was unbearable. I was shocked that it's even legal to rent out such a noisy room. I had hoped it would be quieter at night, but loud cars drove by constantly. Around 4 AM, delivery trucks heading to Cannery Row added to the noise, making it impossible to sleep. Even with noise-canceling headphones, I could still hear the traffic all night long. It's a shame because, in the rare moments of quiet, you could just make out the sound of the waves. The only positive thing I can say is that the location is great—just a block from the ocean and near lots of fun things to walk to. But that doesn't make up for the awful experience we had. If you're considering a room on their terrace, be aware that everyone can access the space outside your room. You'll have no privacy and certainly won't feel comfortable sleeping with your door open. When I checked out the next day, the employee at the front desk was on her cell phone and seemed completely uninterested in my concerns. I mentioned the issue with the bathroom door, explaining that it would be a serious problem for someone in a wheelchair, and she just looked at me blankly. When I brought up how poorly I slept due to the road noise, she simply responded, ”Yeah, it's a busy road.” No apologies, no sympathy—nothing. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially if you have accessibility needs. The location is great, but the poor condition of the room and the lack of concern from the staff make it a place to avoid.
