HOTEL IS A SCAM! IT IS A GUESTHOUSE NOT 5* HOTEL. IT HAS NO STAR RATING! HOMEYMOON RUINED!!!! We booked online from the UK for our honeymoon as all booking websites stated this was a 5* hotel. We picked it due to this and it was the most expensive hotel in the area (even more than the Marriott Weligama/ we had just arrived from Anatara resort) and our longest stay. On arrival we were so underwhelmed. The property grounds were not tidy with leaves everywhere, the bathroom was run down with no amenities like a vanity or dental kit, the towels were not hotel and poor quality. The bar staff hassled us to buy drinks as we walked around. No 5* service. Breakfast was poor. We raised our concerns with the manager in the first instance and enquired about checking out early as we were on our honeymoon and had paid a lot for 5* and this was clearly not the case. The manager agreed to upgrade the room but we decided to sleep on it and decide in the morning. I then woke up with dead mosquitos on my pillow (first time in all of our Sri lanka 3 week stay) despite the mosquito net. Breakfast was poor quality with no fresh fruit and options of cappuccino at an extra charge! This is not 5*.. They had no complimentary activities like yoga, you also cannot surf on the beach! We immediately expressed checking out early due to disappointment and getting a refund for the remaining nights. The manager Kenny then stated we booked through a third party so we needed to contact them to check but had we booked directly with the hotel he would have refunded us. So we proceeded to do this. The third party agreed for a refund based on this ( we have it in writing) and said that they had made contact with the hotel and that they had agreed for a refund for us. We then proceeded to book an alternative hotel (as we had confirmation we booked the Marriot). We proceeded to get our bags and tell Kenny this, however he disputed the refund saying he had not stated this to us or third party and that he will not refund us. He called the higher manager who suggested our experience was due to booking an inferior room and 5* is subjective so we would not be refunded. It was sad and upsetting and has ruined our honeymoon. Upon checking into the Marriot, they advised us the property had no star rating we then emailed the official Sri Lankan tourism board who said the same (photos attached). Please note my other reviews I rarely leave bad reviews!
