El Capitan Hotel, Part of Jdv by Hyatt

It is a shame! This hotel is really nice. We got a great deal for how nice it is. It's really clean, felt newer, the staff was nice. However, we will never return. The outside noise along with the thin walls allowed for very little sleep. I have stayed in hotels that are in downtown areas but the noise from the area around this hotel was incredible, nearly all night. And once we could fall asleep somone in the hotel would slam a door shut etc. I was traveling alone with my daughter, the self parking situation is almost non-existent so we had to make several loops around the hotel before there was space for us to pull into the valet area. The area around the hotel did not feel safe. It looks like they are trying to revive it but with vagrants in multiple places on the streets it made it hard to not be on edge. Once I got the car finally parked and us in our room I did feel safe. I would not recommend staying here if you are expecting to sleep.

If you like hearing cars all night long with their modified mufflers. This is your place. Man I feel bad, they put a lot of work into the property but the surrounding noise levels sounds like you are in the middle of a Nascar track.

The room we had was terrible. No we’re to put things in the bathroom. Shower was open so it was cold. It had a coffee maker but for just heating water and it didn’t work. No free coffee in lobby. It had a refrigerator but no microwave. It was just very inconvenient.

It was a cute cozy neat property very locally placed and convenient. All staff we super friendly and efficient. My only complaint is that parking was very limited.

In my opinion this hotel is Merced's finest. It is beautifully decorated and conveniently located. The rooms are very clean, and majority of the staff was very nice. I found the female desk staff to be unfriendly and not very helpful. However, the male staff members were extremely helpful and had a great attitude. The Seabird restaurant is excellent and the cafe off the lobby is very convenient.

I never write hotel reviews and stay in too many of them for work. This place is fantastic and I hope to be back soon Thanks!

My daughter attends UC Merced and we’ve stayed at several hotels in the area. This is my first time staying at El Capitan and it is going to be my go-to from here on out. I loved it. It was clean and comfortable and everyone was really nice. The decor in our room was beautiful, to the point that I took pictures to show family. We ate dinner next door at The Mainzer and then breakfast at Rainbird (downstairs in the hotel) and I was incredibly impressed with both prices and quality (all locally sourced.) Super adorable co-op art gallery in the same block (the Mac) and saw a community theater production at the same location. The show was an incredible community theater production. I will definitely choose El Capitan on all future stays. Valet parking was super convenient and easy.

This hotel is beautiful. It has a lot of nice areas in the downstairs for sitting and enjoying. The restaurant is good. The staff are all very nice, and tremendously helpful. The rooms are pretty with comfy beds and a wonderful huge bathroom and shower. The whole experience was very luxurious.
