I spent a long time choosing this hotel on the platform before coming to Melbourne. I saw it was newly opened in December 2025, and its location is great—it’s right next to Queen Victoria Market, with tram stops right downstairs, making it very convenient to get to all the attractions.
I stayed in Room 506, but after checking in, I found two lights in the room were not working. Since there’s no main ceiling light, my friend and I had to rely on one corridor light, three small desk lamps, and natural light from the window to move around the room, which made doing our makeup very inconvenient. The bathroom lighting is warm-toned, and it felt cramped when both of us were getting ready there.
The bed linen was clean, but we found leftover paper scraps from the previous guest in the trash bin, as well as product packaging in the storage cabinet near the entrance.
The hotel seems to be a renovation, as the air conditioning control panel is yellowed and quite old.
However, this is not a traditional hotel but a serviced apartment. I’ve previously short-term rented from brands like Stey and Habyt, and after this experience, I think lyf still has a lot of room for improvement.
