鱒魚飯店(Trout Hotel)

Stayed 2 nights in a junior suite river view on the ground floor. Don’t like stairs and no lift. Nice view of the Derwent flowing past. Excellent room. Nice big bed and large bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, heated towel rail and underfloor heating. We had a big fridge but water is extra! Coffee/tea making facilities fine. Large and quick kettle but no teapot and rather small cups. The only con was the APPALLINGLY BAD WIFI. There’s an excellent signal in the main body of the hotel but not in our room! Fortunately there’s a good 5G signal. Breakfasts excellent, with the usual hot and cold options and served by two very pleasant ladies. We ate in the dining room in the evening. Nice food but hardly any other diners. There’s a different menu in the bar and most guests had opted for that. We did have lunch in the very busy bar on the second day, which was very enjoyable. Very pleasant staff in all departments. Unfortunately we were overcharged by £50 when paying our bill-two items which we most definitely hadn’t consumed! The receptionist recognised this very quickly and refunded our £50 straight away. Would we go again? Very possibly but we’d have our evening meals in the bar rather than the almost deserted dining room. A pity, as the dining room menu is very palatable.

We booked a night here last minute. The hotel is situated in Cockermouth which has a small high street, there’s not much there so if you’re looking for peace and relaxation this is the spot for you. There’s a large car park and as you enter, you’ll see the lake where you can sit and have a drink/lunch outside. The hotel is spotless and beautifully decorated, modern but, homely. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Our room was 303, lots of stairs which was fine for us but, older people might struggle. It was private, clean and the bed was really comfy, I had a great nights sleep. I loved the beams and the older style windows. There was tea, coffee, biscuits, hair dryer, toiletries, plenty of toilet roll, everything you could need in the room. Bathroom was clean and the bath was lovely. Had a few problems with the water pressure, the cold tap for the sink goes on and off and the lower shower could spray out hot water unexpectedly which gave me a bit of a shock! But other than that it was perfect. We did say we would probably go for one of the bigger rooms next time but that’s just our preference. The evening meal was delicious, the chefs are very talented, we had lunch, dinner and breakfast and enjoyed all of it. The service was excellent too, very attentive and accommodating. You could see how hard the staff work to accommodate the guests preferences, needs etc… the head waiter was great, unfortunately I didn’t catch his name but he had everything running smoothly and nothing was too much trouble. Slept really well it was very quiet through the night. Breakfast was a cold buffet and the.n table service for the cooked option which was delicious. Check out was smooth. Loved our stay and would absolutely recommend visit this hotel.

An incredible overnight stay with someone very special. Staff customer service second to none especially the 2 ladies on the breakfast service who went above and beyond with providing the best experience. Especially as they had a wedding to follow a busy breakfast service

We went for Sunday lunch which was excellent. One of the party was partially deaf with hearing aids and wanted to say how much the absence of background music was appreciated as it meant that she could enjoy and join in withconversation. Thank you for providing such sa helpful atmosphere.

We only came for food but was not impressed by the attitude of the staff, we felt like we was intruding on there day, we went for the turkey dinner and the food was avarage. I don't think it was acceptable for staff to tut and complain when we ask for a table and then for the dirty table to wiped over as, we even heard one staff member when walking away from another table "I've only got one pair of hands haven't I" we spoke with the Manager who was brilliant and he did say they all had a team meeting this morning and he apologises, I hope they can turn it around as we was here a year and half ago and it couldn't be faulted.

We had dinner for three in the Terrace Bar on Saturday 17th February 2024. The food standard was average, we ordered a dressed salad with our meal, it never came plus my daughter was asked if she wanted extra sauce for her burger, she asked for ketchup and that didn’t arrive either. The servers were friendly and apologetic and my daughter got a free drink to compensate. Overall, we were not overly impressed, it’s a longtime since we ate here and we won’t be back in a hurry.

My husband and I had Sunday lunch here yesterday, we opted for the large portions which were scarcely an average size. There was a very large Yorkshire pudding placed on top of the entire meal; Yorkshire puddings were invented as a cheap starter to a meal to fill you up, so perhaps the hotel is working on this principle. The meal was actually very nice but we failed to understand why roast beef was not accompanied by beef gravy, it was flavoured with curry spices reminiscent of mulligatawny soup. The deserts were lovely (creme brulee and cheesecake). Wainwright bitter made the nicest shandy ever. My husband paid at the bar and we set off homeward bound when after a short while he commented that £95.40 was rather steep for what we'd had. I checked the bill. We'd been overcharged by £20. Husband did not have his reading glasses with him so could not check the bill before paying. We returned to the hotel where the money was quickly refunded.

Went for a family celebration meal, staff were wonderful nothing was a problem food was amazing, staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. Made a special 70th birthday meal a lovely night

We stayed in a suite for two nights for our anniversary. The room was beautiful with stunning views of the river. The breakfast was delicious and very well cooked. Thanks to the reception staff for organising the flowers in the room. Would definitely recommend and we will return. All the staff were very friendly.
