I generally take negative reviews with a large grain of salt. Some folks will find things to be unhappy about no matter where they go, and some just like to complain. That is not the case here. The negative reviews are justified. Believe them. I am not picky about lodging. All I require is a clean, safe room. I'm only there to shower and sleep. I don't mind an older facility that's showing wear, or a bit of noise, as long as it's clean and safe. All this to say that I don't have very high standards for lodging, and this place still failed to meet them. We arrived around 9:30-10pm and waited at least 15 minutes for someone to show up to check us in. The check in area is a glassed in window just inside the entrance (see photo). Very strange. They do have a normal front desk and lobby but they are secured - you can't access it without a room key. So it seems they feel extra security is necessary for the lobby area, but we didn't need a room key to access the elevators or room hallways, so extra security isn't necessary in the guest area? That was disconcerting. The room was terrible. The chair was dirty and stained. The floors were so dirty that the bottom of my feet were getting black after walking around barefoot for just a few minutes (that was the only place I walked barefoot all day). The shower wasn't clean. We wished we'd brought shower shoes. The sink had some kind of a clog - it drained very, very slowly. The mattress and bedding were dirty/stained. And worst of all, there was evidence of bugs in the bed, like between the sheets. Unsure whether they were bedbugs. I suspect not, but we will be monitoring for bites just in case. We ended up running to Walmart just before they closed to buy our own bedding, which we put over the top of the hotel's bedding, because I wanted as many layers between me and that mattress as possible. (We didn't ask for a new room because they were sold out, and even if they did have another room, who's to say it would be any better, and we wanted to buy new bedding before everything closed and that wasn't even an option any more). If there had been other rooms available in town, we would have asked for a refund and left, there was nothing else available. Aside from the main lobby, which was fairly clean, the common areas weren't any better than the room. Floors in the hallways and elevator looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. There was a sign asking us not to pile trash on the floor??? This was right next to a trash can, so I can only assume it's because the trash can was not emptied regularly. Why else would it be an issue? And the pool. Oh wow, the pool. (see picture) To be fair, I assume it wasn't open for the season yet. In WI, mid-May is kind of early for outdoor swimming, so that's understandable. But it had not been emptied or covered or apparently maintained in any way during the off season. It was a green, scummy, disgusting mess. You couldn't see more than a few inches down. I cannot imagin
