Overnight stay en route to Rantepao from Bira. Sengkang doesn’t have a great deal to offer apart from Lake Tempe. We arrived just after a torrential downpour which didn’t make the town look any prettier!
Sallo Hotel seems to be the best of the bunch in terms of places to stay. Everything was okay apart from not having any hot water and the WiFi being so slow to the point where it was useless.
Breakfast was decent and room service food quality surprisingly good.
I was not expecting a lot from this hotel after reading the reviews but thought it would be OK for a night. I had stipulated a non-smoking room and the room was clean. Interesting to have a power socket in the shower and the build quality was generally poor but again, Ok for one night. The main problem however was the noise. With the air conditioning unit on you couldn't sleep, without it you were too hot to sleep. The quality of the window fittings also meant you could hear the roosters at 2am and the call to prayer. All in all we had little if any sleep. Breakfast was poor. The cafe next door (I think part of the hotel?) allowed smoking but there was a terrace upstairs and dinner was reasonable. Whilst the lake is worth visiting I would suggest that you stay elsewhere as this hotel is not up to standard
