We stayed at Mattei’s Tavern from May 2–4, and sadly, it was our most disappointing visit — despite being our third time and the most expensive at $1,500 per night. One of the major issues was the presence of two large weddings during our stay. We were not informed in advance that these events would be taking place, and they completely overtook the common areas. It was nearly impossible to find a quiet place to relax or socialize. Finding our way back to our room with all the “private event” signs was even difficult. Our room had issues (a dirty towel and pillow, hole in the comforter, and noise from the room above late into the night), and the steam room at the spa was unexpectedly out of service. We also had billing problems at check-in and check-out, and the staff seemed inexperienced and unprepared. I reached out to the hotel twice afterward (directly to management and through the contact form) and never received a response. For a resort that claims to be five-star, this experience fell well short.

This was our second trip to Mattei's Tavern and the hotel never disappoints. The bed was so comfortable and the room had everything we needed. There is a cozy fireplace inside and a great firepit outside of your room. The grounds are beautiful grounds and the restaurant was great. Walking distance to everything in Los Olivos.

We had the best time as a family here. We played corn hole, made our own infused olive oil, made s'mores in our backyard, and ate the most delicious meals! The location is perfect, as we were able to walk to town and enjoy some wine tastings, do a little shopping, and grab lunch.

The property overall is very lovely. The grounds a very well kept and the cottages and suites make it feel very homey and welcoming. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, especially the front desk. The interior of the rooms are very well designed and spacious. The only downside which is a big one for us is the onsite restaurant. The food was extremely disappointing. We heard many great things but it appears there was a change in chefs and it’s since gone downhill. We couldn’t finish our food unfortunately. The restaurant setting has so much potential. If the food was on the same level as the rest of the resort then I would highly recommend visiting.

A very unique and amazing place! Absolutely awesome service! Everyone greeted us BY NAME! Accommodations were stellar- very clean and well designed. The Tavern has some of the best food around. I had Crispy Salmon. Cooked to perfection! My wife had scallops- both very tasty! We will return!!

We (my husband and I), planned this getaway to celebrate my Birthday and Mattei's Tavern did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived to check-in, we were given such an amazing welcome with the delicious lemon ginger beer drink. Also amazing. The people who checked us in couldn't have been any more friendly. So helpful, including the gentlemen who took our luggage to our room. We stayed in the Jr. King Suite which was heavenly. We truly enjoyed our private patio with the firepit and sat out there every nigh. The dinning experience at the Tavern was fabulous everyday. It didn't matter what meal we were having, the staff was so warm and friendly. You could tell they really enjoyed working at the Tavern. And the food was amazing too. We loved our welcome bottle of spirits and because it was my Birthday, it was a lovely surprise receiving the box of chocolate. My 90 minute was incredible. The spa and fitness room was terrific too. I can't say enough about our stay. There wasn't one bad experience or moment. We would definitely recommend.

We did not stay at the Inn but came to the restaurant/tavern. One of the best meals I've had. Everything we tried was delicious and we had a variety of dishes our group ordered. The service was professional and friendly. The bar and dining area have a welcoming feeling. Will be coming back!

Everything is top notch, from the friendly staff (each and every person on the property!), to the amazing spa and great food and service. Rooms are spacious and perfectly maintained, Highly recommend.
