Afternoon tea - Spent a relaxing enjoyable couple of hours sharing afternoon tea with three friends, served by friendly staff in lounge warned by real fire. Came away wishing we had started arrived earlier and left later. Sandwiches, savouries, scones/jam/clotted cream, cakes and tea. One of our party cheekily suggested that they were disappointed that there were no cucumber sandwiches... the waiter called his bluff and returned soon afterwards with freshly made cucumber 'finger' - excellent!

We absolutely LOVE this place! For years we tried to find a decent place for a couple of days away that was relaxing, with great rooms/food/facilities and a few years ago we landed at The Lake. We haven't looked back and we are not the only return visitors. It is glorious! The staff absolutely make the place shine even more - special shout out to them, as they always deliver. Thank you for another wonderful couple of days away!

I booked the hotel after reading the Sunday Times, and the GM was so pleasent. I booked a 3 day trip for my wife's Susie's birthday !!. We soon met Pierre, and he was so charming and helpful, he moved me into Lodge 1. What a wonderful memory, apart from one real issue. I ordered the chicken and I was so upset when the peas I asked for were very low quality and nearly cold, then the chips, For this type of resturant you would not expect packet frozen chips. I expected Fat chips, peeled and cut by the kitchen. For £60 per person you do not expect this, it was quite a shock. Apart from that service, the room and breakfast were very very good. What a find. Hugely under-rated hotel. Quiet, charming, with good facilities and excellent staff. The spa has everything that you need and the outside hot tub overlooking the lake is beautiful. Food was delicious - both the dinner and breakfast. The staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and kind. Becca was particularly brilliant. We only came from Brecon (40 mins away) so we will definitely come again! Dan Cole

We needed a short break to give ourselves a boost and this place delivered on every level. The staff here are exceptional because they are attentive but very friendly and personable. It’s a magnificent hotel with lovely, old fashioned sofas and log fires throughout the lounge areas. Our room was great, if not a little creaky, but it didn’t disturb us or, it seems, anyone else. We had two very quiet nights. The food at dinner was fabulous. We had a two night break package which included one night in the restaurant. High class but unpretentious and at a usual price of £60 for 4 courses, really great value. The spa is lovely too. Large pool. Sauna and steam room and an epic outdoor hot tub on the terrace overlooking the beautiful lake and grounds. We each had a treatment and my Indian head massage was incredible. We loved it and will definitely return.

Booked an overnight package as a last minute get away. Would book again without hesitation. Lovely, traditional hotel, in a wonderful location. Staff are all fantastic, nothing too much trouble for them. Food was excellent, from the afternoon tea, to the incredible three course evening meal, plus a great breakfast. The spa was great to relax at. In particular the hot tub overlooking the lake. Cannot recommend highly enough, and no wonder there are so many people returning time after time.
